I belong to an athletic club. Yoga classes, cardio machines, pool, etc. They also have social events. Is that a "social club"? I pay a woman to come in about once a month and clean the house. I consider her a service contractor, rather than a servant, because she doesn't wait on me. She just cleans the house. Usually when I'm not here. I pay her double her asking price because wages in Spokane are low and I consider the going rate to be inadequate.

No old money. My money is pretty new.

I was going to say yes to both, but I see new $$$ doesn't count.

Dear Tao, I have a penny from 1887. That's pretty old money. What about you? Do you have servants?

P.S. I won't correct your writing skills any more if it makes you sad.

How sweet. See, you're not so annoying after all. You're kind of ... nice.

<strike>Ruf</strike> REF calling time here...We will now start a new post with the poll <strike>(or is that pellet with the poison in the vessel with the pestle or...no...</strike> ...Should AuntBee be renamed "The Annoying One...? :p

Servant, hmmm...our last cleaner, who came in for 1/2 a day every other week retired to some posh place in AZ to play golf. Maybe we paid her too much...No old money here...and FAR TOO little of the new variety either, especially with a kid starting college next autumn...

Oops. I lied. We had a cleaning service for a few months--but had to dump them after they kept breaking unreplaceable stuff. Of course, we could have chosen to regard that as a form of simplifying our FUTURE cleaning needs...

Now, we have started living by the words of the immortal Quentin Crisp, "After about four years, the dust doesn't get any worse." (Actually, that's not a quote, it's a paraphrase--can't find the book under all the dust just now. THIS, however, is a genuine quote from the Divine Quentin: "Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level." Which, I believe, fits in VERY well with our overall views these days...) B)

I have a bunch of change in the bottom of my purse that's been there for a while now. Does that count as old money? B)

I think that depends on how you define "worse." And who wants to live with four years of dust anyway?

Suppose that the “dust†is actually ashes from the broken urn of a beloved spouse. :p
(That died mysteriously and was cremated in a hurry to hide the evidence  )
