A previous owner dropped a sweet into the armrest power socket and this has now settled as a sticky mess at the bottom. I’d like to remove the socket but I cannot work out how to do so. I have the armrest apart but there seems no easy way to extract the socket without breaking something! Any ideas?

In the end I had to clean out the gunge with kitchen cleaner spray, a soft cloth and a large screwdriver. It appears to be working fine now.

The Repair Manual (more info) procedure (under Vehicle Interior: Power Outlets (Int): Center Power Outlet Socket: Removal) says to use a screwdriver, with the tip wrapped with tape, to disengage the claw.
