Congress hasn't renewed the incentive for chargers for the 2013 tax returns.

I was wrong about the 20% figure.
It's 37%, for last night's trip. If I just use my home rate of $~0.12/kwh and gas at $3.10 locally/currently.

Last night it was cold, electric heater running in EV:
    3.6 miles/kwh = $0.03/mile.
(In nice weather with no climate control load it can be much higher miles/kwh. And of course speed is the biggest factor, just like gas burners) (Some can get 6 mi./kwh, but these are the same hypermiling jerks you guys have here.) (My PR is 51 mi./10kwh on a leisurely Sunday morning joyride. {when you pay this much for fuel you can joyride again} But this was not hypermiling, I was at the posted speed limit of 55mph for quite a bit.)

    Running in Gas only:
    38 miles/gal. = $0.08/mile.
(This can be better. I got this on a 500mi. road trip, gas only, at +5mph the posted speed limit with AC. 80mph in OK.!)

I get to plug in at work to top off for the trip home, 48 mile RT. I don't know what the commercial rate is.
I did not account for any of this freebie in my original wrong post.

    El Do,
Yes, I read this. I doubt I could have gotten this $250 Kit L2 EVSE and my cobbled 240V extension cord setup qualified for any tax incentive anyway.... Oh well. Some pay +$1500 to have an L2 charger installed.

What's a PiP like? Is it a 3 season EV? I know about the 62mph limit and limited acceleration. That's what got me to look at the Volt in the first place.

With 150HP/ 238ft/lb of torque on tap anytime, better handling and ride, the Volt is just what Lutz wanted,
    A Leap in Technology!!!

    Fellow tech nerds,
I updated the first post in this thread with new Oil Analysis reports.
I added a new ATF analysis from my buddy's Gen 3 w/104k mi. He got rid of the Gen2 that is shown in the reports.
His was similar to my original report in that the ATF was too dark to do the 'Particle count'.

    Enjoy all the little numbers.
And some still believe Toyota when they say this is a lifetime fluid.....

Your friend is now using Mobil1ATF instead of Toyota Type WS?

    He went with WS.
I'm telling him to change it again, at least at the next 10k engine oil change.
I recommend to keep changing it until you get a decent report. He added the magnet to the drain plug also.
He's a bank courier and racks up the miles. His Gen2 had 385k miles on it when he moved to a Gen3.

My Gen3 had Redline D6 in it when I sold it. That has a very similar viscosity to WS, but it is synthetic and not the generic house brand that toyota puts in their entire fleet.

I'd sure like to see the drain plug with debris sometime in the future. But the initial samples are showing what I found, left-over manufacturing debris (aka., Al and Fe sources) as well as sealant (Si and Fe.)

The Mobil1ATF sure has a lot of additives, nearly 2x the Type WS.

I tried to change the transaxle oil two weeks ago but the 'dealer' must have used 'the big long wrench' and torqued it down real good. Since I've got to in for the firmware update, I'll have them change it then and give me a sample. I'll also ask them to replace the broken fasteners.

    tf,

This won't work on the plastic engine oil filter housing used on a Gen3.
Besides, we're talking about the transaxle and how the Gen3 doesn't have a stock magnetic drain plug like earlier models.

There is no reason to "modify the housing".
Add a super magnet to the drain plug ( post #1) or buy an aftermarket drain plug with a magnet installed (covered somewhere in this long thread).

You say you "have no issues". You are adding an added 'ferrous filter', but only oil analysis reports measure claims like this.

    tf,
Have you changed the ATF on your Gen2?
If not, why not? Have a sample bottle ready to do an analysis. And you'll get to see your stock magnetic drain plug.

I have a 2012 prius which has the underside fairing (which I hear is a pain to take off/put on). I'm going to change the transmission fluid, but I hear that multiple changes are needed to clean it out. So I was wondering if the following would work. Remove the fairing and change the fluid. Drive it for 150 miles and change it again. Then put the fairing back on. Is 150 miles enough to mix well enough with the remaining old fluid that is left in the transmission ? Do I need to do a third change 150 miles later to clean it out a little more ? I have 40K on the car and I should have done
this sooner. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

There is no need for multiple ATF changes. Just drain and refill it now and then again every 60k miles. I have done ATF drain/refills every 60k miles in my 2004 Prius with lab testing of the used ATF. Now at 257k miles and no tranny problems to date.

It only takes about 10 minutes to remove the bottom cover.
