Hi I'm wanting to buy a 2017 auris hybrid with 6 thousand miles on it.
I've read the auris suffer from 12v battery problems. Is this still the case?
Also does the 1.8 engine suffer from any major problems. I'm wanting to keep the car for around 7 /8 years

They're more reliable than most cars... Gen2 Prius (2004-2009) are mostly still going strong and have lasted way longer than people expected. Take a look on the roads around you, you'll see them often. Gen3 Prius have a few more failure issues than Gen2 and too early to know about Gen4 Prius like the one you want.

    welcome!

there have been a spate of bad 12 volts, mostly under warranty. definitely worth testing before you buy.

no major problems yet, except one blown head gasket the was reported here. but the night is still young. all the best!(y)

We bought a new 2017 Auris hybrid here in Germany and love it. We've had no problems.

I have been using Toyota Auris dec 2014 model for good few months.

Its fully loaded car, with leather seats and its very reliable and very smooth to drive, compare to my previous cars life Nissan Note and Honda civic.

I have had my car mot and service done under £120.00 and there is no fault at all.

As far I know, these cars has less faults then normal petrol /diesel cars.

You need to make sure that you buy genuine parts from Toyota to service your car.

Auris TS 2014 owner here. Ive had car now 1.5 years and ~30k km.
    Everyday i love driving that.

I believe you have found those 12V battery problems from older Auris news. First mk2 (2013->) models had software bug before they fixed it: you could trigger ECU being live ”forever” by touching hazard switch very gently. It then drained 12V battery.

Toyota Auris owners - 12 volt flat batteries - Toyota
It was 2012-2014 Auris problem, remembered wrong.

    What causes the issue?

The issue is caused when the hazard switch is partially depressed for a very short period of time, incorrectly activating the car’s CAN-bus electrical communications system. This draws a constant flow of current that can discharge the 12 volt battery if the car is left unused for several days.

How can I prevent this from occurring?

Toyota has published a Technical Service Bulletin to its dealer network advising them of a permanent solution to this issue. The bulletin contains information and software files that will enable technicians to modify the software of the car’s combination meter. This update will prevent the incorrect activation of the CAN-bus system and prevent any potential flat battery concerns arising from this area of the vehicle.
