Sure. If you drive 55 mph constant, it should give about 45 MPG. Then do some pulse and glide to boost it up to 55 MPG.

Between Volt and Prius is 37-50 MPG. Camry hybrid is 40-41 MPG depending on the trim. We'll see how much the PHV and regular Accord hybrid gets.

The Plug in Prius can do 55 MPG in hybrid mode (if you already have it warm and keep it down on speed/acceleration). Lots of people here reporting even higher hybrid-mode MPG from their plug-in hybrid. The bigger batteries and larger EV motor support allow it to be more efficient overall. EPA testing is harsher so the PiP is only at 50.

For a PHEV, the real point is the overall efficiency, for a particular person's commute, Not just the ice after the battery is done or the MPGe on battery. The ratio of EV one can sustain is important and yet another 10-15mile mild PHEV is not going to shift the overall a lot. Fuelly has the overall for the Pip (350K miles) at about 81.7MPG -- so overall its much better than a basic hybrid. And while here like to rag on the Volt, but the median MPG on voltstats, over 16Million miles, is 178MPG, and the average is 129MPG.

Overall the honda PHEV does not look very impressive. This seems far more like an 2+ year lagging of the PiP or a year lagging of the Energi for a short EV range PHEV, and way far behind the volt. We'll have to wait to see the actual EPA numbres of and price. They could have a winner if they really keep the price down, if not, it seems like all the recent honda's too little, to late.
