No, you can't, because voltage is not power, unless you also have current to multiply it by. The highest voltage you can imagine is doing zero work if no current is flowing. (That's completely analogous, by the way, to how much power there is in a large torque on a shaft that isn't turning.)

It's clear that you're not totally new to this stuff and you have heard several of the concepts in play, but without being more careful to use them correctly, you're repeatedly generating more muddle than you would be if you really were new to the concepts and coming to learn.

Well, maybe try this: post #57 already worked out two examples for you, concretely, with numbers. Then five posts later you said this:

When I look at the nomograph I can see the .28 and .72 torque split baked into every mark on the page. So it seems you're really saying that when you look at the nomograph you're not seeing that. Can you be more specific about what you were looking at that you were thinking didn't fit?

Maybe suggest another set of operating conditions, different from the two already worked out for you in #57, try to work out the numbers, see how far you get?

the formula for voltage is E=IR... you need to know those two other variables to know voltage... P=IE... h.p= 746 watts...

voltage is potential.. it's like a water tank high on a hill... let's say... 100 ft. up... the potential the water has is .434 X 100 or 43.4 psi (for x number of gallons.) ... it has to have some relation to make sense... current is similar to psi...

Current is analogous to flow rate, not pressure.

The potential of the water is a function of density and vertical head, not the gallon volume.
I'm a retired engineer. That stuff is ingrained, or was until I started the very gradual slope into senility.

    That calculator is for you.

then you should know... potential is how much for how long...

    does that mean you're abstaining?...

It means I posted, then changed my mind and withdrew it.

At this point in the word salad scramble, abstention may be the wiser choice.

I've been abstaining for a while wondering when you guys are finally going to get it that all our engineering texts and classes were wrong.

current is limited by a couple things... like resistance and voltage... resistance and voltage is similar to an orifice... you can have this much voltage and that much current on one side... and then you can a different voltage and current on the other...
psi is simply a manner of expressing force... voltage is a force... current is force doing work... resistance is what these two things need to overcome...

a large bolder on top of a hill... is energy potential... like voltage... it is potential because it has mass and gravity acting on mass is force... the potential lies between it's energy state on top the hill vs. it's energy state on the bottom... you might look at this and say... the rock hasn't changed... but it's potential to do work has...

How many variables do we have in this universe?... There is force and there is non-force... There is passive and there is active... There is day and there is night...energy is a word we use once we can define and capture potential... Every mechanical device operates on the same principles... There is a high that moves to a low and in between we capture that flow and turn it to useful work...

everything in between high and low... breath... contraction and expansion... every wave is breath... yet we don't understand the origin...

Torque is simply a manner of transiting force...
Torque - In physics and mechanics, torque is the rotational equivalent of linear force.
Power - In physics, power is the amount of energy transferred or converted per unit time. In the International System of Units, the unit of power is the watt, equal to one joule per second. In older works, power is sometimes called activity.
Energy - In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object.

Potential essentially is the difference... Force is the difference at work...
Potential - In physics, potential energy is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors.
Force - In physics, a force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object.

the objective of all matter is to reach a state of equilibrium... a balance... between the esoteric and the exoteric... between the inner world and the outer world... that is what the mind is... a balance...
