b1620 DTC - how to access right hand side airbag sensor assembly

Most vulnerable wiring in that system is the one that connects to passenger seat sensor under the seat. I've seen little dogs chew those up. If you want to get under the dash, watch youtube videos on how to repair the combination meter, which requires unbolting and disconnecting passenger side air bag.

 

The sensor that senses a severe impact and detonates the air bag explosives is under the plastic cover down below knee level between driver and passenger seat.

I've often wondered if you were carjacked if there was a way you could apply enough force to that plastic cover by kicking with both feet at the same time in order to trigger it. I suspect not.

 

I wonder if @ChapmanF has ever researched the location of the sensors? It'd be fun if there was a way you could hit the sensor with enough force to trigger the airbag if someone was trying to steal your car. Once you get punched in the face by an air bag explosion you won't be thinking about stealing a car anymore.

 

On my gen 3, any time I've had enough trim removed to see any of the sensors, they've been right where the wiring diagram pictures show them. The side ones are mounted low on the B pillar, not far from where the seat belt retractors mount.

 

So maybe if I put marks on the outside of the car to know where the sensors are and if someone steals my car I just throw a big rock or a small bullet at the sensors and the air bags punch the thief in the face?

 

If you can make that shot, maybe just shoot the tires?
