    I'd looked at one in 2003, but bought a larger car instead.

    They did have a Hybrid version - and I looked at one, thinking "I'll check this out when I go to get my next car" - but it was off the market again by then. I think only 2 years here, 2013ish.

    THAT is why copyright & patents need to be time-limited.
    I believe one reason Toyota developed some new technologies for Gen 4 was because some of their HSD patents were going to expire soon.
