Can you show us the Camry Camera installed on your Prius? Thanks!

If you take a look at DumLong's camera installed on the Prius, it does not look aesthetics at all.
It makes it look shoddy in materials and workmanship.
It does not do the Prius any justice. You know what I mean?

Priusbee, I know what you mean. I'll make sure to provide a good DIY. I ended up ordering the 2012 Prius Rear View Camera and it was delivered yesterday. I'll get it going hopefully sometime this month.

I ordered the same camera from this seller. The wires coming out of it are a red and black in one cable and inside the RCA video cable is a tiny yellow wire and an unshielded copper wire. Maybe this is obvious to some, but are the red + and black - camera power? And the yellow is the video feed and u shielded is ground? How come others are red black orange and white? I'm pretty good with electronics (have built my computers for years, but these are odd. Which of these wires get routed to the driver kick panel?

The Sony CCD camera you purchased, how is the fit to the rear hatch?
Can you take a few pictures?

    Thanks!

dimetech, I just received my camera as well. Not the exact same camera but very similiar. The red and black cable is your power. So you want to connect the red one to a 12V power source such as the rear wiper or reverse lights. The black cable is the ground. You can route this to the front panel but you are better off grounding it in the back. I'm sure you can find whole bunch of wires tied together on to a metal bolt when you take off all of the panels. So the only the video cable needs to be routed up to the panel - unless you are planning to do it under the headliners. The tiny yellow wire from the video cable is your video+ (goes to pin 8) and the unshielded is your video - (goes to pin 16). Please correct me if I'm wrong. I plan to do it sometime this month, just haven't had the free time yet.

Thanks for the insight. I figured this but wanted to make sure. I'm planning on running to the driver kick panel because I don't want to mess up the headliner on a brand new car. I'll be updating whenever I get around to it as well. PS is your name a reference to bloodsport? I love that movie.

    I bought this from ebay.

Sony CCD Car Rear View Reverse Camera for Toyota Prius 2012 | eBay

It's only $21 and it has a nice solid OEM install. The wiring is pretty much the same except it's 12V. I figure, if it has any issues, I can just buy another one and install it fairly quick using existing wiring. More to follow in couple of weeks.

    kumatae,
One more question. Are you going to install it in one of the license plates lights or in the camera slot to the left of the license plate ? Thanks

slot to the left of the license plate. from what i understand, it fits perfectly in there without much modifications like an oem camera. my wife has a 2010 and this camera is for my father in law who has a 2011 and i'll probably get around to it next week or so. i've never seen what this slot looks like but if it's anything like the 2011, it shouldn't be too difficult to place it in there.

    Hi Ray,

Which backup camera did you use?
Do you have a picture of the fit?

I notices, there were several cameras out there, but some of them does not fit like the OEM.

    Thanks!

    Hi Kumatae,

I just received the camera from your recommended vendor above.
I have one question, did you just hook up the 12-volt backup brake light?
    No diodes are required? Correct?

BTW, how is your setup with this camera? I love to hear your feedback.

    Thanks!

The link (http://priuschat.com/attachments/camera2-png.42170/) uses a relay.
I prefer not use a relay. Mechanical contact wears out.
If I don't use a relay, will the modification using the two diodes work just as well as the relay?

The camera vendor diagram only uses 12V to power the camera. Is that the correct voltage for the camera?
    Will a straight 12V works?

I am confuse about the 6-volt and 12-volt hook up. Does the voltage for the camera uses a standard 6-volt or 12-volt?

    Thanks!
