    It is a little more complicated:
    1. Needs to match the Ahr capacity of the other modules
    2. Needs to be charged to the same level as the other modules
    3. Adjacent modules need to be checked to see if they are weak
    4. First generation modules are weak
    People have done it but the recommended practice is to use Gen-2 or later modules to replace all of them. However, there is a 3d party solution that uses new, "D" cells which looks really good. There would be a challenge with going from 28/2 = 14 modules to 38/2 = 19 modules.

    Can it be charged with a battery charger while checking with a volt meter?

    Who sells reliable modules? i'm looking for a trusted source for used modules.

    @jeff652 and @TMR-JWAP sell modules.

    They are members here and test them before using.

    Might be worth starting a conversation with them and see what they have.

    The 3rd party solution is not for Gen 1 Prius, It looks like you may be able to get a new Toyota battery for about $2000 after returning the core.

    I just put a set of 10 of these below in my gen1 pack. I really only needed three but replaced all the lowest measuring modules. I cycled all the cells at 2A discharge down to 6.0V and fully charged at 3A using a Turnigy Reaktor charger/discharger. I ranked by discharge capacity and matched high and low pairs.

    The modules apparently came out of a bus and were in a very low state of charge when I received them. Cycling brought them back after 2-deep discharge/charge sessions with a few days rest between.

    Search Ebay: gen 1.5 prius modules (I can't post link?)

    Overall I am happy with the modules.
