Does the Prius automatically turn itself off after 1hr in ACC mode? Cause that's what happened to me and it was a little disconcerting at first to have the radio turned off and the interior lights come on.

No mention of this in a search of the technical manuals or the owner's guide.

Hmm... I'll have to experiment this week!

Yes, I think it's true. I've had it shut off on me while I was experimenting with Bluetooth stuff.

I thought that the ICE would just kick on, but maybe I'm thinking of another scenario.

Page 132 of the 2005 Owner's Manual confirms that:

"If you leave your vehicle in the “ACCâ€
mode for about an hour, the hybrid system
    is automatically turned off."

I just leave the car "On" (and either open the windows or leave the A/C on depending on the weather) and turn the headlights off or in "parking lights" mode if I'm going to be sitting for a while. That way the system will charge itself when needed. From a full charge it takes about 15 minutes to discharge enough to kick in the ICE for a recharge and thereafter it kicks in for about 30 seconds once every 5 minutes.

Hmm, interesting. I did not catch that when I was reading the manual. Thanks John.

With the climate control off, I can sit in the car with the engine off for about 30 mins or so from about 6 bars before the engine has to recharge. I found that driving around the block charges it back up to 6 bars and is probably better than idling (esp. when people glare at you for idling)

So if you have it in ACC so you can play the radio while waxing your car,it will shut off in an hour?

I missed that too. But it says the hybrid system will turn off, yet in ACC, the hybrid system is not on.
    Something to try.

To note though, that wouldn't turn off things that can be turned on without the car in ACC, IG or Ready.

Ok here was the test conditions; In ACC mode(green light on),drivers door open, all dome lights off, radio on. After approximately 1 hour(give or take a few minutes, wasn't watching when went off),the Prius shut off. No green light no radio, etc. So I guess if you want to listen to radio while cleaning your car, either work fast or use the radio in the garage :D

Yep, there it is, plain as day on page 131 of the 2004 manual. So much for my text search.

    Great info! Thanks!
