So I just bought a new-to-me 2007 Prius. I am trying to reinstall my 12 Volt battery. I cannot get the vent tube to click in. I know it has a "keyhole" end, but it will NOT go in. Is there some trick I'm unaware of? I'm losing daylight and it's getting really cold out! Someone please, help :(

I was talking about the little tube that goes into the actual battery, but I just got it in. Thank-you for trying to help! Now I'm just terrified to connect the ground wire

    WRONG!
Optima Yellow and other non-OEM batteries for Gen 2 & 3 have a vent tube to vent gasses outside instead if in to the passenger compartment. You do not want hydrogen in the passenger compartment!

Yeah, I got all that hooked up, but when my dear bf took the battery out for me earlier, he left the ground wire connected to the car and took the battery connector off the negative post instead. Needless to say, when I went to put it back on, it sparked. So I disconnected the ground wire from the frame, and attached the post cable back to the post. I'm scared that when I screw the ground wire back to the frame, I'm going to electrocute myself. I watched a YouTube video and followed the instructions to a T, they didn't have any problems but that spark scared the crap out of me :/

Do you have to rotate the connection 90 degrees to push it in, then when it un-rotates it locks? I can't remember, but it does positively lock.

There's always a spark when reconnecting the negative cable, and vent tube connected or not, there is ZERO risk of an explosion at reconnection. It's only protracted time, with no chance of hydrogen to escape (it's very light, will float off fast), where you you'd get a build-up.

The optima battery has no vent to vent any thing out of and even if there was a vent there is a vent for the Hybrid battery 6 inches away for cool the battery that goes out side the car

I prefer to unhook the red connector first on 12v batteries, then cover the terminal with tape if necessary, the Black is just a ground, if removing the battery of course remove it also.
When the red is hooked to the car anything that touches the black terminal(ground) that’s grounded will spark, and quickly use the charge in the battery.

So if for example if I was unhooking the battery to let it kill any obd2 codes, I would unhook the positive lead.
If I was leaving the car in storage, I would tape the red lead after unhooking it so it couldn’t possible connect with the battery.

    Dang it they're vented:

This is just a stock picture, maybe early gen two (judging from the larger posts), but I can attest: they are vented. I have one on our 3rd gen. The vent tube from the stock battery fits properly in the Yellow top, same location.
