BBC: Li-ion battery may not have overheated in Dreamliner

    Another source pointing to NMC. Ford Energi plugins use the same cells as PiP.

    I think they are a better choice for the dreamliner.

    Investigators: Dreamliner battery fire was severe
    Some updates, it looks like they are not close to a conclusion.

    It takes a long time to get faa certification and test a component for an aircraft. That is why technology moves so slowly. If boeing were doing this today, they likely would have used a different chemistry, but the choice was probably made years ago. I know airbus is planning to use saft, and should be through faa certification of the battery. I don't know what chemistry they are using. Airbus is watching the results closely to see if they need to change their design.

    Tonight's news said it was thermal runaway, but they don't yet know why.
