    You'll like it.
Steinbeck was a dark DARK dude, but I enjoyed OMAM very much.
I've probably read it a half dozen times.

    Wabbits!! :)

    Let's see....
Finished News Of The World (Jiles) a while ago and it wasn't bad.
The Weekenders (Mary Kay Andrews) was mistaken for a movie I watched but it turned out not to be too horrible. World War II at Sea (Symonds) is an astoundingly thorough book.....and very accurate if necessarily abbreviated.

Currently Reading Dream Town by Baldacci, which is the third in his Archer series....something of a Dixon Hill knock-off :ROFLMAO:
Very light fare, but I like reading historical fiction to see if they sneak in some historical inaccuracies.......and every now and then it's nice just to read something light and entertaining.

A boy sees dead people. This is not like his other horror stories.

    Billy Summers….by the same.

Technically it was a last year’s book, and probably not the best but solidly in the top 10.

I was a professional writer for a bit "way back." Not novels, although I wrote one unsuccessful tome. Periodical writing was my thing....anyway, I love to read and usually have two or three books open and actively reading at a time.

Two that I read this spring:

Roughing It by Mark Twain (read it many years ago, also). But, I liked almost all of Twain's books. And, still love his quote "Man is the only animal that blushes; or needs to."

And, a book I was expecting to hate, but it was given to me at Christmas and it turned out to be surprisingly better than I expected:

Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump
    - they made a movie of it -- Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Steinbeck is a top fave and I re-read his stuff every few years.

    I loved the film.

    ------------

I've just re-read Transitions by Iain Banks. I re-read it to ensure that it was OK to recommend it to my daughter. There's a couple of icky sex scenes, but they're pretty minor, and the rest of the book is very much her sort of thing. Among other things, it's about an assassin who travels between different parallel universes. Obviously.

It is one of my favourite novels, because its creation of worlds is so complete and so intriguing, and because it weaves together so many threads so clearly. And I've always loved Iain Banks' writing style.

Other than that, I'm working my way through Val McDermid's various series of detective novels at the moment, and I'm very much enjoying them too. They're not particular complex or clever, but they're fun.

The books I'm reading at the moment are e-books.

When this thread started, such things barely even existed.

Ebooks count too. That is all I read now. In case you didn't kmow you can download them from the library.

Anyway i started Tales of the South Pacific. It is a Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of sequentially related short stories by James A. Michener about the Pacific campaign in World War II. The stories are based on observations and anecdotes he collected while stationed as a lieutenant commander in the US Navy at the Espiritu Santo Naval Base on the island of Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides Islands (now known as Vanuatu).

I am not sure why I do this to myself. Hahaha

Audio books count as well….and you can also get those from your local library.
Currently (not)reading _The Last Thing He Told Me_ by Laura Dave.
Kinda struggling with it…but I keep plowing through it.

    Michener is a favorite.
I have read a number of his books but have not gotten to _Tales_ yet. I have two on my phone right now (_Texas_ and _The Source_)

Audiobooks are a little different than e-books and they come with one huge advantage which is that you can (not)-read them while driving, mowing, etc.
I am told that the YouTubes are a source (probably more useful if you pay $12 a month so you can load and go) and librivox has some interesting titles as well.

For those who like science fiction, Escape Pod is great for short-story audiobooks.

End of Summer: A post viral-apocalypse story: Book One of the Seasons of Man

    From amazon
    Description
When a viral apocalypse kills 97% percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

This is the first book in a new series from the author of the Eden Chronicle's "A Bright Shore," "Come and Take it," and "New Shores."

The author is a former CIA operations officer who has decided that his lifelong love of writing is more fun than "real" work.

Maybe @patrickindallas could change the title to Books you read or what are you reading.
