BP is enviromentally conscious if you think that investing in alternative sources of energy and sitting on the technology until oil runs out is so.

today, oil companies spend only a fraction of the 150 billion annual profit on oil exploration and development. and none on oil refineries. the reason?? well... maybe they know there is no oil to find so why bother looking for it.

BP like the other oil companies have been quietly buying alternative energy companies so they will be well positioned when oil does run out. none of the oil companies are using their considerable resources to bring any of this technology to market quicker. in fact, many believe (as i do) that oil companies have bought many of the wind, solar and geothermal companies in order to make sure they do not make an impact too soon. such an event would dilute their already massive profits.

oh ya...some more good news... all the oil companies just recently announced record profits for last year with the average gain of 30+% over 2003. so make that over 190 BILLION last year. (this total does not include the largest oil producer in the world Aramco in Saudi Arabia. since the company was nationalized in 1979, they have not published earnings...but most figure they would add 60-80 billion to the pot)
