    Thanks Dave.
The javascript was the easiest part of the whole thing for me. I took a hello world example I found online and just plugged in a few lines of code. Packaging the extension properly was the annoying part.
As you may already know firefox extensions are all uncompiled open source javascript. So if you're curious about how the extension works all you have to do is unzip it and take a look.

Ok, I tried this about a week ago and got a blank page and figured I just needed to wait for the page to be fixed....but I tried it again today and I'm still just getting a blank page at that link.....

Is there something I'm supposed to do that I don't understand about xpi extensions?

you should get a pop up asking if you want to install the link.

    *edit*

actually i should say you will get a dialog box prompting you to install. there is a blank page that also comes up too. acts similarly like opening some pdf's

Ok, I got it to work. I still can't get it to work by clicking the link, but I copied the url and pasted it into a new window and and the pop-up came right up and everything works great after restarting firefox. No idea why clicking the link didn't work.

Did you try clicking the link again after you had restarted firefox? Newly installed extensions are not enabled until you restart the browser. It should work just fine when you click through. It would be kind of lame to write an extension so you don't have to manually change the ? to a & if it forced you to open up a new window and paste into it.
Anyway, if it's still not working after you've restarted firefox, send me the particular link you're trying to check out. Maybe the plugin isn't working perfectly.

I think what Evan is saying is that just clicking the xpi URL in the first message on this topic comes up with a blank screen.

But if you right click it and do a "save link as..." or whatever, and save the XPI file off to your sytem, then everything works fine. i.e. save the XPI file off to your system, then drag it back onto your firefox window, and the install extention dialog appears. Once the extension is installed and firefox is restarted, it works great, thanks!

Haha...you're right. I misunderstood what he was saying. Thanks for the clarification.

Wow, it sure does! I was checking PriusChat this morning, as always, and was habitually clicking the "New Posts" icon beside the thread name. Now I don't have to be so careful!

Thanks Danny! Great work as always!

Ok, that's good. Now can anyone tell me how to get rid of the .xpi file. When I click on the page it sort of loads, flashes and loads again with that!

You mean like uninstall? Go to Tools/Extensions/highlight the PriusChat.com Fix and then click Uninstall.

    9. How do I uninstall Extensions?

You can't do that yet. Future releases of Firefox (probably version 0.9) will have an uninstall ability for the extensions. However, you can disable an extension by selecting Tools > Options... then click on Extensions. Here you are able to select any extension and click Disable. Note that you need to restart the browser after disabling an extension.

Now that this is no longer needed, apparently, is there a way to remove it from Firefox? It appears to cause messages to load, go blank and reload, a minor annoyance.
