Block heater for Prius gen III

    Hello to you all

    A small introduction.
    I'm Arjan de Weger from the Netherlands.
    Happyli married with four grown up kids.
    Proud owner since 2 month off a silver Prius gen. III model V known in Europe as Excecutive with solar roof.
    The Enginer gen III is paid and ready for shipping mids Jan.
    So Let's join the club of mondial Prius PHEV enthousiasts.
    I'm a dental technician, painter , excotic bird breeder and last but not least completely dedicated to the new form off driving with the Prius.

    I expect the enginer gen III end Febr. Begining off March.
    A friend off mine you know as Floyd 2 will help me install it.
    Well he will install it, and I will help.

    I seek your help for a problem i'm not able to solve in the Netherlands.
    You all know the ammount off fuel, the Prius needs by a cold start.
    We could decrease that amount off fuel by heating up the motor with a electric block heater.
    This electric block heater warms up the engine by 35 C.
    Sorry I'm a metric guy.
    My intension is to use this EBH all over the year, so in summer I can leave with an all heated engine, do what ever I have to do, and return, probebly without using one drop off fuel.
    In winter the heating up period will be much shorter. also less fuel.

    The EBH is very well known in extreme cold areas such as Alaska, Canada and the Nordic countries.
    But in Holland with it's modest climat it's completely unknown.

    The EBH is available in the Prius store but only American standard 110Volt.
    We in Europe need the EBH for Prius II(Floyd2) and III (me) for European standard 230 volt.

    I hope someone from Scandinavie read this and come's up with the answer.

    I should add that the 2004-2009 Prius block heater did NOT directly heat the coolant. There is a machined recess in the aluminum block. The heater is rod shaped. You smear a thermal transfer grease onto the heater, and put it into the recess until it clicks in

    The 4 litre V6 in my FJ Cruiser uses a similar heater. It is only 400 watts and not that effective once temps are -30 C and colder

    The 2010 Prius apparently uses a similar heater, but it is intended to heat the oil more than the coolant. At least according to DEFA

    You don't have a PHEV, you have a hybrid vehicle. PHEV refers to -charging- batteries that can move the car, not -heating- the engine. The 230V block heater would work just fine in the Netherlands. It's available from dealers in Norway and Sweden as a Toyota part. The one used in North America was created by Toyota Canada (for obvious reasons). When I purchased Pearl, I asked the salesman if the block heater was included, and he said "of course". It's an "option" that you can't refuse in Alberta. The one jayman found for you is probably the same one used in Norway and Sweden. They just package it with a Toyota box.
