We have a 2013 Prius. When I press the applications button on my console, I get "system not installed". The bluetooth does not work when I press it. The radio works but when I hit source it does not do anything. I took it to the dealer and they said I have to replace the entire radio console for $900. We also tried to reload the entire operating software on a new USB stick and the system will not acknowlege the stick.

Is there a simpler and cheaper solution than the $900 replacement? thanks all!

For $900, assuming that you want to just DIY it yourself and spend the rest of the money on a good quality aftermarket multimedia kit, I would recommend you to go browse for some android prius multimedia kit in the internet and get one that you're interested in. Another guy in this forum posted that he bought a $700 android kit which fits perfectly fine. Note that I do not buy this kit and only letting you know since I went across his post.

really stupid hardware software interface product by toyota that is so fragile that it only lasts for 5 years. We believe what might have happened is that we tried interfacing a newer generation iphone with the radio and that it may have totally shredded the interface. Crappy product! We are debating about not replacing it and just using our phones for everything.

and what doubly frustrating is that since all the cable and ports interface thru the single radio unit, the AUX radio input no longer functions to receive signals and the USB port no longer operates in either direction (including charging).

Agreed. For $800 to $900, you can get a magnetic phone mount + 8" or 10.1" tablet. Not only they're way moreEfunctional, but also cheaper. And better in every respect.

The whole thing (no nav, no mp3, no charging, no bluetooth, and limited radio) is depressing. I bought this car with those features in mind, not only the stunning mileage and EV technology. When it worked it was fine. I wonder if Toyota knows how many of these are failing, and how their non-support of Entune and non-standard head units is potentially losing them future business.

Honestly, what I think would be very beneficial for both companies and consumers is that if they actually stop making their own infotainment system. There are companies out there dedicated to make smartphones or laptops. Just let them make the device (android of course). They're years ahead of car companies since car companies are focused on, well, car instead of the infotainment. It'd also be cheaper because chances are they won't charge us $1,500 for a barely functioning infotainment system with crappy touch screen sensor and limited functionality with no software update at all.

The Toyota dealer gave me an estimate to "fix" the problem. $1500 dollars for a refurbished head unit and associated systems and that's JUST the cost of the parts. They had to contact Toyota HQ in California to talk with a specialist.

As long as your hybrid system is not integrated to the head unit, or even if it does you don't mind ignoring about it, don't even think of doing $1,500 repair bill. Don't just don't. There are far better options that will cost a fraction of that.

Unless you MUST have the stock radio, it's too expensive to repair. You might look online,
there may be places that repair them that probably won't be as expensive as the dealer.
But an aftermarket one will be less expensive.

We bought our 2013 Prius new. Within the first year, the dealership replaced the radio twice. The Bluetooth features would work for a while, we would go back in, the radio would get an update, and repeat. We finally reached the end of our warranty, and gave up.

I connect my phone via the 3.5 mm AUX port. The sound/clarity are reduced. My wife doesn't want to be bothered with connecting that way. I hate to pay for an additional unit, when I should've received a working unit to begin with.

The Prius has been a good car, except for Bluetooth issues.
