Okay so here is the story. I just bought a 2012 Prius. With the knowledge that these lights were on. Of course the person I bought it from did not tell me that. I knew going and looking at it something was going to be wrong because of the price.

So both break lights are on, slip and, abs. They are solid and they are on when you start it. I unplugged the 12V battery for an hour and the lights still came on. The breaks are soft. You have to press down hard for them to do anything. I did not want to chance going to a auto place and have them read the codes. I am going to a place that specializes in hybrids.

I also noticed that the battery's did not fully charge. It would not charge the last two bars on the screen. I did have a 2nd generation Prius and I went down a hill that I know should have filled it up. So I don't know if that is a symptom or a cause.

I'll keep an eye out for your next post when you have the codes.

If you want a head start, you can read abridged forms of abs and skid codes from home with nothing more than a wire and some counting of light blinks. (It's like they were thinking ahead, and figured not everybody would want to take a drive to get brake codes read.)

There are posts around PriusChat on how to do it.

Okay so I went to AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, and O'Reilly Auto Parts to get the codes for what is wrong.

AutoZone gave code P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack (crapped my pants). Gave this code only.

Advanced Auto Parts & O'Reilly Auto Parts gave code C1246 Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor. They both gave this code only.

So like I asked before is the battery an issue or a symptom?

Or if I go around again will I get another patch of codes?

I don't think it is a wheel bearing.

I looked under the hood and was looking to see if I could see anything.

I found that it looks like there is break fluid leaking from some where. And the break fluid reservoir is above max.

Anyone know how much that might be to fix?

And I still don't know about the Battery.

    welcome!
    how many miles on her?

the battery doesn't have to fill up just because your old one did. it all depends on the circumstances, the hill just being a part of the equation.

is this a salvage or flood car?

your title says you need help, but i don't see a question, and you are taking it to a hybrid repair shop?

I would take it to a dealership for diagnosis/codes. That might set you back $75~100, but will likely save a lot of run around. And for sure post the codes.

The "soft" brakes MIGHT just be the brakes operating in failsafe mode, it's like that: the brakes "work" but definitely takes more effort, poor feel.

If those lights are on you have lost regen braking and are using the hydraulic brakes only. I'd guess you have a leak somewhere in the system and someone topped off the fluid excessively to buy time. Try and trace the source of the leak, fix it and then get a Techstream or Snap On scanner to clear the code.

You can’t fix your car until you know what’s wrong. The first thing you need to do is to correctly read the OBD codes. To do that, you should use a Toyota TechStream. Either go to a dealer or Toyota specialist, or you can buy it from eBay for about $20, though it needs an old Windows 32-bit laptop (I got one for $100). Once you’ve read ALL the codes, you cana figure out what’s wrong.
