Brake fluid shared between front and rear?

I just had brake service to replace my rear brakes and fluid at 160k. It has been a while since I replaced the front brakes and a while back someone said I should consider replacing my brake fluid since it was dirty.

Is the brake fluid shared between the front and rear brakes, or do they have independent reservoirs, meaning my front brake fluid could still be dirty?

Inside the fluid reservoir it’s shared, however there are 2 circuits beyond that. 2 separate circuits have been required by law since the 60’s. That way if the front brakes go out you still have the rear and vice versa. What you would want to do if you bleed the brakes is to get as much as you can from the reservoir first then refill with fresh fluid and bleed the brakes. Both front and rear.
