Brake grinding noise. Why do my rotors look like this?

    Rotors are cheap, I would just change them with new pads.

    It's weird I know, I definitely looked over the rotors thouroughly when I took them off a few months ago. What's odd is that I've seen this same kinda thing on my Jeep that doesn't get driven very much, so the brakes also don't see much use.

    If those are low spots, like craters, seems like a defect, and might as well replace them. Maybe show them to your dealership service manager, see what he/she says. If they're defective, maybe you get some gratis disks?

    If the seldom-driven Jeep gets craters too, that would seem to weigh against the 'defective part' idea.

    Replaced the rotors about a year ago. Lubed every slide pin, every contact point (besides the friction material, of course). Still seeing the cratering on the 1 year old rotors. This is so frustrating...

    Minor spots and pits on brake rotors is NOT a problem.
    Don't obsess and create a problem where there IS NONE.
