    The dealership I bought ours from said the only time they had trouble on newer model Prius cars was after 150,000 miles and it was an issue of the glue on the pads seperating from the age, not wear.

    It's a new service item for the 2010 Prius and wasn't on the maintenance schedule of the Gen 2 Prius. I had mine done at 32,000km and will have to get it done at 48,000km. I asked about it and it seems pricey for what it does but it is preventative maintenance (esp. since we don't use it often and it can get plenty of salt/mud/other wintery mix).
