Are you sure that estimate hasn't got a date of April 1st?

That part number they gave you is for a gasket for the brake booster. It's about four bucks. You can see it in the far right of this picture. :)

The big ol' boxy part just to the left of that gasket would be the booster assembly they're wanting to sell you.

So found the part, which brings more questions.
1.is it me or do some dealers want you to reach out to them to buy parts as some sites seem to have removed the lookup and replaced it with send your part number needed, vin and contact info.

2.My original part is 4721047140 and my local dealer wants to replace it with 04002-33347. So the part they recommend would this be plug and play or would it need to be programmed?

If it needs to be programmed can my local shop do this?

My plan is to buy this part here and install it and have my local shop bleed and program it.

    Thoughts anyone??

So how do you know if you will need to program the actuator?

I don't think programming is needed, other than the small procedures described in the manual, like learning the solenoid offset, which if it needs to do, it will tell you by setting the code that means that, and then in Techstream you say "ok, so do that", and it does.

Now, it's possible that the units sold for use in different car models are "programmed" with different calibrations of the software, and that could be sticky business, if you pick one up that was meant for a different model. I know there are different calibration IDs for 2010 between the trims that came with 15" and 17" wheels, for example.

It's possible the dealer could reflash one, if it came down to that; they do have reflashes available for TSBs. They don't really advertise being able to do that from one application model to another.

If you can connect to the thing with Techstream, you can find out its current calibration ID, and compare to the ones listed in bulletins for your model, to see if it's one of those. T-CP-A0B-0001-D is one bulletin I know of that has brake calibration IDs listed.

As luck would have it all my attempts to get this part have failed. my last resort is this part i found NIB on ebay, is it compatible?

    47210-47310

Genuine Toyota Brake Master Cylinder 47050-47140 | eBay

the part does not match the box but it does have the EC initials like mine. Why are there so many versions of this part my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!! do the more expensive ones make you breakfast in bed? what justifies the price if they all do the same thing.

Not every number you see on a part is a part number. You can see "47210-47310" on a part itself, but if you do, you are looking at a 47050-47140 part (or the older part that 47050-47140 has superseded, and 47210-47310 wasn't the part number of that older one, either). Yes, it's tricky.

    So here's what you do, you go to Toyota's own parts site, you look by 2010 Prius, and you see these two choices for the part;

2010 Toyota Prius Brake Master Cylinder. Brakes, Leak, Repair - 4705047140 - Genuine Toyota Part

2010 Toyota Prius Brake Master Cylinder. DISC, TIRE, WHEEL - 4705047150 - Genuine Toyota Part

So you have to decide which one is right for your car. You click each one and look. When you click the top one, you see it says the mark on the part can be 47210-47310 or 47210-47140, and under "what this fits" you can see 2010 hatchback and L grade.

When you click on the second one, you see its "mark" can be 47210-47320 or 47210-47150, and it goes on 2010 G or S grades with the 17 inch wheels.

Your profile says you have a three, so I would expect you want the first one. What is the mark on the one in your car?

You can see this post (and the one after it, from Elektroingenieur) for more on the relationship between orderable part numbers and the marks on the parts themselves.

Often used part sellers online will not be paying attention to that, and they will list the mark they see on the part as if it were the part number.

The number you can actually see on the part itself, which some online sellers mistake for the part number.

No, the confusing thing is that Toyota part numbers all look like some xxxxx-yyyyy, and so do the marks printed on parts that are not part numbers.

In your case, 47210-47310 is the mark on the part, but 47050-47140 is its part number (which you will not find on the part).

    Hello ! Mr. ChapmanF
On this same subject, We were told by our Lakeland Toyota Dealer 11/3/'22 that our 2012 Prius V-2 VIN# JTDZN3EU9C3105757 needs a brake master cylinder Part# 4705047110 They are telling us that part alone is $1,683.00 ?? Labor = $600.00+
We have purchased parts from the Stuart, FL Toyota Dealer Certified Used in the past for a more economical price and they are telling us that they need the Actual # off of the Part that is to be removed to be sure of the Compatibility of the Replacement part due to the electronics involved ?
The Mechanic at the Independent shop does not want to remove the existing part until he has one that will be shipped to replace the one that he is removing (that we need the Part# off of ?) Is there anyway that we can tell by the above VIN# what the actual part # would be on our 2012 Toyota Prius V-2 ? Or do I just Crap Shoot and order the:
    $1,229.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/403255583341?epid=661912836&hash=item5de3e7e26d:g:6P8AAOSw6S1hdtkT&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoKy1TtZuLaB%2BRB479B7e6Dz5iZ0lL8pXUP1v9dGmr2JJOavc0II5StBHeAARdpIJmXMzYhdQ6oeo9KhfBfv6bysimMH3oyNxuT7izmKQTIm3a4deGEg7CO6lvt%2BBhu74iG%2BdROFuPBN6gcyvO7odOZshtU1DnetRNRef%2BTKDtIpHSFmC2OLkmFtOoOQUMDhUDjfCXiyI7UUAxzEKqdhAqOQ%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5jL6quKYQ
    Or the :
    $624.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/285007577732?epid=658164860&hash=item425bc68284:g:OH4AAOSww0JjUCdF&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwPPJLfsl4P9l5%2FkW7EfRTzn8d2WKQMQOrbMuA%2F7XIenxgY3e%2Bn9aZctZfM1seUcuvDFis4ahPJz5vxnLuyb1%2F%2FnYZeQSDY8XomuSudfZ8ZysAccBolC7LXxnoV9OhLKhEfbaNVt8GfkOaFD9QUWw6i%2BdSbU6IpDp5jemfULoUjBRn6vzuBGmT3L6uZqkTEgXno0XUFleeoD69clFhX6jxDPCZiuUUGydUk729CmsX1J2zsQXrC0WH3mmS9WeYPjjKQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4i6uoKKYQ
Which the above both items from Treasure Coast Toyota of Stuart, FL list my Year/Make/Model as Compatible but this Dealership says to be sure they need that Part # that my Mechanic does not want to remove to disable (the already disabled[had to be towed] Prius) Please Advise as my Economical Nature says to order the $624.99 part and then the Mechanic will pull the Part (then we will have the Exact Part Number) and if the $624.99 part does not work, I will return it and have the Information that the Stuart, FL Toyota Dealer needs to Cross Reference the Original Part # to the Replacement Part # to find the most economical exact match of the Part needed ? Why is this so Complicated ? [email protected] a.k.a. 4-robinsnest
