I got SUPER lucky finding a dealer-demo PiP with 10K miles on it that I bought a few months ago for $23K. Showroom quality, only owned by the dealer. Couldn't come close to touching that price on a new one with every incentive, and even used it was hard to find that price (except for salvage). I bought it across the country, never stepped foot in the dealership, and shipped it home, but the dealer couldn't have been better dealing with that!

Anyway, the moral of the story is that if you spend 2-3 months hunting down a perfect used PiP, it *can* be done! :)

...be sure to follow thread Price Paid on PiP but I think we have less supply and less action this year compared to last Fall with the fabulous deals. I like *new* cars best but our state/region taxes cars quite heavily every year on book value so it would be tempting to get a used PiP if I thought it could be an immaculate reception.

I'm thinking of buying a used dealer/demo courtesy car from my local Toyota dealer. It's a 2014 Prius plug-in advanced. It has 6000 miles on it looks excellant. The sticker is $38,898 with a reduced price of $33,988. How much more can I get off the price? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I have a couple of aversions to buying used:

    1. If it's some sort of demo, hung around the dealership for a while, it's probably seen it's share of abuse.

    2. Hang around here for a while, read up on all the "what did you do to yur Prius today stuff", then think: what might someone have done in the past to my Prius?

Thanks for the quick replay, Mendel Leisk. This is strictly a dealer car and I don't think it was abused. It has only been titled to the dealer. Love this site, I will keep reading up on things.

It would be interesting to know how much someone paid for a new car like the one you are referring to, how much of a discount they got. I'll bet someone will come forward and tell you and then you can make a comparison.

I bought my 2012 advanced in September 2013 new without any miles for 30,000, The year before, I also bought a 2012 but not an advanced for 23,000 with 5000 miles on it (don't be afraid to wait and counts when the price is right)

I think I'll make an offer of $31,500 out the door. We have 8% sales tax here. If no go I'll wait a couple weeks.

You will buy what you want and you should but for that price you could buy a new Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring.

    1. hmmm ... is it eligible for tax credits ? If not, take those off the top.
    2. Figure 1 - 2k of lost Toyota rebates. Take those off the price
    3. That car has $8k of toys. Figure 25% depreciation. Take $2k off
    4. It is used. Take 2 - 3k off
