Is buying a used prius bc it's equipped with a bullet proof ecvt the wrong reason? I could also add that the prius doubles as a emergency rolling generator and power camping trip too..

I guess other major components could leave you stranded, but I thought the trans was usually the most expensive and weakest link. Then enter the cvt, which I wont rant about, but I own three manual's because they are cheaper and more reliable, not bc I like shifting.

So yeah, I don't get out allot. I'm retired and thinking I'd get out more if I had a car that drove itself down the highway like a tesla.. Which the 2016-2022 prius can, and can perform even better with the comma openpilot..

Anyway.. Should I keep looking for a manual civic, since Toyota screwed us when they went with a internal slave design?

    Thanks!

    welcome!
depends on how old and miles. yes, the trans is the most bullet proof part of the car, and cheap to replace because the salvage yards have an abundance.
but an old(er) prius is weak on some expensive parts like the hybrid battery and brake actuator.
especially if you aren't hybrid savvy and a serious diy'er with all the tools and skills.
    all the best!
