    ltlurker, other credits and AMT can also affect the credit for the car. Download the 2015 1040 & the instructions, plug in your expected 2016 numbers & see what happens.

    If you are using tax refunds as a vehicle for savings (unless your deductions are maxed out) you should be rethinking your IRA & 401(k) contributions.
