Well, my dealer said to replace the air filter.. They wanted my wife to pay 50++ for a new filter installed?! So, like a good wife she called me and asked me to do it, knowing I could do it for far less!

I decided to go with a k&n filter since I have used them before and never had any issues. I am not looking for performance gains, but merely trying to save money over the long run. Purchased on amazon for 38.00, I figure I will get a return on my investment by around 60,000 miles.. I also think an added bonus is saving the earth! No matter how little or small it all helps!

    Here are some pics:

    Everything outside the box:
Put the card on the left in my glove box and told my wife about it. Stuck the sticker under the hood, so hopefully anyone working on it will see it.

I tried to stick the stickers onto the air filter box but they wouldn't stick. I would have to sand them down. That's not happening anytime soon! lol

    Nice. :)

As long as you are careful with re-oiling you'll be fine.

yes I have reoiled many filters in the past.. mostly cone style filters, but I doubt this is any different. I saw all your posts in regards to these AFTER I purchased it already lol .. but that is why I added an Explanation of why I purchased this. I did not want my thread to be cluttered with debate! lol

When my dealer told me to replace the Engine Air Filter, they also told me to replace the cabin filter. I went ahead and ordered this on ebay for 6.85. This was the cheapest one I could find that seemed to be a charcoal filter.

    Purchased here: C35667 CF10285 CAF1816P 24483 CABIN FILTER | eBay

    Here are some pics:

OEM (left) vs new Vigor Carbon Filter (right): OEM wasn't THAT dirty, but decided to change it anyways.

Used these instructions to swap this out:

Only difference with these instructions and what I did was that there was no filter frame.

    DIY:
    1. Open Glove box and remove everything.
    2. Pull this latch off on the right side:
    Removed:
    3. Now pull up on the right side then the left side. There is a bump stop on the right side of the glove box that you have to squeeze the whole glove box to get around. See bottom of pic below for mounting hinge points. This is the back of the glove box when out.
Pic of the hinge on the dash where the glove box goes:
Here is a pic of where the filter goes. On the right side is where you push the tab and remove the cover.
Once you remove the cover, just pull out the old filter.

Very easy maintenance! My car smelled SOOO much better after this!

K&N products are excellent as I've used them on my motorcycles in the past & are always the preferred way to go over conventional air filters. Thanx for the tutorial as I could be needing this in a couple month:).

Ok, since putting the Car seat in, I have been SUPER annoyed with the Armrest. Can't open it with the car seat in!! Everytime I slide it back it hit the carseat and I couldnt get it open. So, I followed the instructions that johnrobinson posted in this thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...t-slide-tilt-hitting-kids-in-back-seat-2.html

Got lazy to take the whole thing apart and saw the last post in the thread where splais
used 2 tire pressure covers and wedged it in the armrest so that you can open it without sliding it back.

I wedged it in here on both sides. The pin is the gray piece.

It now works like johnrobinson 's video:
