He can probably count on new Congress granting $10000 per EV sales so the USA will in many ways subsidize Ca. political desires

 

So I still have to pay their bills? What ever happened to all the pot tax money?

 

I wouldn't mind owning an all electric vehicle, but its certainly going to limit the amount of maintenance that the DIYer can do. Leaving you forever beholden to the dealer.
Another thought is how all of us will be taxing our already overburdened electric grid. Cables are falling off of towers in the forests and causing fires. PG&E is bankrupt and cannot afford to repair and monitor all the wires in their vast jurisdiction.

 

The maintenance limited for a DIYer is because maintenance items on ICE cars don't exist for a BEV. You are already tied to a dealer with current computer controlled cars. Fully flushing an ABS brake system requires the use of a manufacturer scan tool.

From what I hear, PG&E is just a greedy F'up, but we will have to address paying for roads as we move away from an easy to tax fuel.

 

Have you looked under the hood of a new ICE vehicle lately? Or even one made in the past 5 years? You can't even find the ice - much less work on them.

This has raised a side question. Are BEVs required to have OBD II? If so, are the general problem codes for drive train issues public domain?
