Can Anyone Tell Me Where They Put The Tool That Unlocks My Wheel Locks???

Underneath the cargo floor in the hatch area, the floor lifts up, the tool should be there in the plastic cargo tray, the cargo tray underneath the carpeted floor pulls out, and the spare is there.

 

It looks like the one on the left in the photo.

The lug lock looks like a big socket. It's cylindrical with a hex head on one end, that the tire wrench will fit on, and a recess on the other end that will fit over the locking lug. It may be below the plastic box in the back and down in the well with the mini-spare. Or the dealer may have forgotten to give it to you.

 

In my last two vehicles, they were hiding in the glove box, including the prius. The prius has the recessed area(where everyone puts ther owners manual), feel in there, as it can be hard to see.

Do all Prius use a lug lock? I don't recall it on ours.

If you have locking lugs you should have gotten a lock ID card to use in registering them with McGard. Also the card has a form to order a spare key and lug nut. I always order one of each and put them in a "safe" place just in case the original gets lost. Of course the serious thieves know how to get them off anyway.

You might want to check all of the papers that came with your car to see if you have the cards.

 

I'm guessing that Toyota dealers must have a complete set of lug nut "keys", since I just had an alignment done the other day, which included them rotating the tires a few times to resolve a "tire pull". I never dug out the key from the spot where I store it, and they never asked. So, unless they unpacked the trunk, then they must have had their own masters.

Its a handy thing to remember if you ever lose the "key".

No, I know they rotated the tires, because they eliminated (well, hid really) the "tire pull". And I believe them when they say the tires were the cause of my car pulling to the right because upon reflection, it matched my own observations.

 

I had to buy a new lugnut key for the VW that we bought used because it was missing the key. To match it up I drove the car to a VW dealer and he brought out a set of masters, I think he said there were 12 possible keys. Just for reference the VW dealer charged me $16 for the key.

 

It's an aftermarket product readily available in auto parts stores. The only reason I have mine is because they were "free" from the dealer.

 

When I had my tires first rotated, I asked my tire dealer to "get them off and put a regular lug in its place." They actually brightened up at the prospect and later seemed quite pleased at what they did to remove the old ones. Power machinery was used.
