I'm going to be taking a look at this 2013 Prius 4 (grey leather seats, JBL sound, Barcelona Red Metallic) with 68,500 miles this weekend. The asking price is $13,500 but they're willing to come down to $13,000 without the dealer 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. If you take a look at the CarFax, the vehicle has been serviced about every 5,000 miles. It's a one-owner car and looks to be in great shape. It's been involved with one minor accident, but the photos don't show any damage to the area listed on the damage report.

Does the deal sound good? It's been on this dealer's lot for a while (77 days on Car Gurus), so I'm not sure if there is something about the vehicle that is deterring buyers, or if it's location in East Central Wisconsin at a Ford/Lincoln dealership is holding it back. Let me know what you think!

I think I'd look for the damage. If I didn't find anything that scared me I'd buy it. I think I'd push on the price a little. Going on three months is a long time to sit on a car. They should be ready to deal. How much is the warranty worth?

I'm not sure how much the warranty is worth but this is what the advertisement says:

"* Includes the Boucher Exclusive 12mo/ 12,000 Mile Limited Warranty (Engine, Transmission, Drive Axle, Brakes, Steering, Electrical, Seals/Gaskets and more!)
    * This Barcelona Red Metallic 2013 Toyota Prius has been thoroughly reconditioned, inspected and expertly detailed by our Ford Factory certified technicians!"

i would pay $500. for the one year warranty if it's bumper to bumper, unconditional, just due to the unknown accident.

I think I'd offer the 13,000 and make them throw in the warranty.

Their best "Internet Price" they're willing to offer was $13,289 or $13,000 without the extended powertrain warranty. I told them the most I wanted to pay was $12,500 for the vehicle, since it's been on their lot since 6/1/17. I'll try to get them lower in person on Saturday.

it would also help us to help you if you describe how the test drive went and what the minor accident really is.

Get spare keys, if not free, then at least at cost! They are obscenely expensive and the dealer markup is huge, so its something they will deal on.

I agree. Get a mechanic you trust to look it over. If they find anything major, walk away... anything minor can be used as bargaining chips. At the very least you'll have peace of mind if you buy. (y)

Well, I am driving 4 hours home to view the vehicle. It's 1.5 hours away from our house, going to see it at 9:00am on Saturday, but have to wrap everything up pretty quick as the credit union closes at 12pm...

I've driven 5 or 6 Prii during my search now, but unfortunately, will not have time to bring it to a Toyota dealer for inspection. Anything major to look for mechanically? I know that I should watch the battery, to see if it charges up when I first start driving. Anything else?

Seems like a fair price, with limited knowledge.

Could be nothing, but the Trip A fuel economy might be a bit low at 42.7 on the tripometer might be close to 40 mpg actual. It might be from driving conditions and style of the previous owner (my car averaged around 44 mpg before I purchased it). But just in case, I'd definitely want the 12 mo/12k warranty.

The CarFax shows that it was regularly serviced. The vin is JTDKN3DU2D0353127 - The CarFax is attached to the Gordie Boucher listing of the vehicle. It shows that it was regularly serviced at a Toyota dealer before being traded.

my only question is the accident. ask them what happened, and what was repaired, to make sure it wasn't a critical area with mechanical damage.
a report from the repair shoppe would be desirable.
