I have an 05 Prius, pretty basic model except for the JBL system. I have a working key that used to have SKS functionality, but it got wet and no longer starts remotely and buttons don't work.

I bought an SKS key off eBay, and did the dance to program it to the car. So I can now put the key in and start the car with either key. However, I would like to keep my key in my pocket while using the new key. The buttons appear to work fine, but is it possible to program it if the original key's buttons don't work? Thanks in advance.

I think it is. Go to the chicken dance thread and see what the experts have to say

Unfortunately, no. You need to have a fully functioning key fob to program another (new) key using the “Chicken Dance”. You will need the help of a suitably equipped auto locksmith or a trip to the dealer to do a reset and reseed.

Thanks, that was what I was afraid of. Looks like I'll be taking the key out of my pocket for the life of the car, like a sucker. Not worth the money to get it reset.

Have you tried opening the original fob case and really cleaning the circuit board off? Sometimes water and dirt get stuck in there and it won’t work until you clean it really good. Just remember to get a replacement fob and change the rfid chip into the new case also.
