Can I use a 2010 fob in a 2005 vehicle?

Last year a friend totalled her 2010 (I think) Prius. She salvaged the two key fobs and gave them to me in case they might be usable in some way, some day.

Well, it seems that now we are down to one fob on our 2005 Prius.

Is it possible to program the later model fob to work on the 2005? I read a long time ago that there is some procedure for programming which can be done by the owner without paying $200+ to a dealer.

So, I would appreciate any advice from the wise people here on the forum.
    Thank you.

Aha, I found the writeup of "the chicken dance" for fob programming, thanks to usnavystgc!
The remaining question is will the 2010 fob work?

No on the 2010. You need a new 2nd gen fob

But you should get a reasonable price on Ebay for it and then buy a 2nd gen with it.

Did anyone ever find a way to reset used fobs? Does that require Techstream? Otherwise, those fobs would be useless.
