Can tall guys fit in a Prius comfortably

At 6.3 I find the Prius VERY comfortable. I just did over 1500 miles in a couple of days with no complaints. If I keep a perfect posture on the back seat, my head will be touching the roof, but slide down a little bit and my head doesn't touch the roof. I'm not planning to be chauffeured around much in my Prius, so the back seats issue doesn't concern me much.

 

I hadn't thought to report this until I saw this thread updated: I just finished a 2000+ mile RT to Hybridfest, averaging ~500 miles per day. After seeing it mentioned in another thread, I recently bought an Obusforme seat support to help with thigh support. My quads felt a little stiff after the first day, so I took longer and more frequent breaks the next. Between the Obusforme support and the breaks, the rest of the journey was fine.

My biggest concern on this trip was my lower back. I have some mild chronic lumbar pain from degenerative disc disease. My back felt fine during the drive.

My only criticism of my Prius is my lack of leg room. I'm 6'5" and about 260 lbs. so I am cramped in the drivers cockpit. I think that the seat extension would do wonders for me. I've not been able to find any longer rails to move my seat back, but it looks like they're available. Could you please provide me with the contact information for the company that did your modification? Thanks!

Toyota Prius Seat Extensions Extend My Seat Tall Drivers

I'm a mere 6' 2" (or 1.8796 meters) but had legroom issues. These seat extenders really helped. In fact, I only use about 2" of the extra 4" of legroom provided. JimboK, your orbusforme link didn't work, could you please post a url?

Um . . . . I better check the stat's again . . . last time I looked, the Prius, gen II AND gen III, were both classified as mid-sized ... not a little car. I'll get back with you when I confirm the new little car stat being referenced. (everyone better not hop on one leg waiting)

 

So i literally joined this forum to complain about this. 6’5” here and im pretty half and half legs to torso. Im thinking you other tall guys are mostly legs.

because holy crap my head room was zero. I had the seat lowered all the way down. I leaned back as far as i could while still able to reach the steering wheel so my arms straight out to get the wheel which is incredibly uncomfortable and my hair was still being tightly pressed down. This was WITH the sun roof which easy give about half an inch more to work with. Getting into the prius was also awkward and felt awful.

seeing under the rear view mirror was nearly impossible so it would block my view to the right in a dangerous way.

honestly this was the best looking car ever. Like the pictures do it zero justice. Im completely heartbroken i just dont fit.

 

You are commenting about your Gen 4 here in a Gen 2 thread? Gen 4s were known to have less headroom for tall people than a Gen 2. Maybe you could look at the new Gen 5 unless you were happy to look at a Gen 3 or Gen 2. It probably would be a good idea to test drive before buying to check for how you fit.

 

This comment strikes me as odd... most cars with sunroofs tend to have less headroom than their plain-roofed counterparts, not more. I wonder if Toyota did something special with that model?

I'm 6'4" and I fit in our Prius- not the same model and no sunroof.

I did have to adjust the rear view mirror so it rides higher- they are on a double-jointed mount so you can fix that. I've got mine rammed up against the roof in any car I drive.

Getting in and out of any low car can be uncomfortable- especially when one's knees hit middle age. But getting that low to the ground is the secret to higher MPG at highway speeds. Worth it for me.
