    Cheap!,

I am considering a similar installation for my Lilliput touchscreen. Could you tell me how you mounted the LCD base to the dash? Did you drill screw holes into the dash for this? How much dash disassembly did you need to do?

    Thanks!

Hi to all CANview club members!
I have posted some updates on my download page:http://www.hybridinterfaces.ca/downloads.html
To those of you with the new V4, the code now includes the latest relay configurations as supplied by the guys at CalCars.org as well as another of their suggestions which is a simple table on the EV screen that shows any conditions that currently would prevent EV mode from being entered. In the form of "EV:TSVCBE%"
A red "T" means throttle (accelerator) pressed too hard
A red "S" means speed too high
A red "V" means voltage too low
A red "C" means charge current limit too low
A red "B" means battery temperature too high
A red "E" means engine temperature too low
A red "%" means SOC % is too low
The exact thresholds these are all compared to can be user-set on the 1st relay setup page. The default values are ones CalCars is currently using. These are not absolute limits, but according to CalCars give a much better idea of when EV is possible.

For those with the V3 and the relay option, the 2 new codes posted (CAN and video) match the V4 relay settings. In addition, an AUTOSAVE function has been added as one of the beefs was that you lost any trip information when you powered off your Prius unless you remembered to press SAVE each time. That was asking a lot, especially for us older types whose memory is not quite be what it was, so this version now does a SAVE whenever you switch out of drive into Park or neutral. If you then sit in park for a long period and the ICE kicks in, it won't record that automatically, but its better than before.
If you don't like this AUTOSAVE function, you can turn it off on the main setup screen.

For those with V1,2 or 3 who don't have relays, there also 2 new codes for you that add this AUTOSAVE function.

The V4 doesn't need this because it stores all trip info by battery back-up. Its SAVE function would only be used if you were going to unplug the V4 while it was in for Toyota service.

There are now 9 V4's out there being installed. Hopefully a few will post how they did their install, particularly the LCD, for the benefit of others. Merry Xmas!

flashed the V1 in the wife's car and love the auto save feature. The one thing that I thought it really needed and now Norm has fixed it.

I also flashed my V2 for PHEV code and WOW, my screen is getting fuller and very busy.

Now, the initial page for EV thresholds values are all alike, in the 100 values for what I remember and my upper right corner reminds me a transistor configuration....CBE.....like I don't see it everyday in the schematics ;)

Hi! After CalCars requested increasing the number of user-set conditions for each relay from 2 to 4, they suggested it would make it quicker for users who did not want or need all those conditions if they came preset to a value which would always be true: in this case speed <100mph. (You DO keep below 100mph, right?) So now for each extra condition that you do want to use, you can enter CalCars suggested values and just leave the unwanted ones set to these 100+ values which will effectively be ignored. I should point out again that I set CANview relay condition values to purely arbitrary numbers and expect the user to type in the latest ones. The only exception are the 8 EV mode entry conditions that are probably quite current.

The top line and right corner are other Calcars suggestions which I've described both on my web-page http://www.hybridinterfaces.ca/setuprelays.html
and also in this thread a few posts back.

BTW, if anybody is curious, there are now 26 CAN-view owners who have bought the relay options and who have expressed the goal of doing a plug-in conversion at some point in 2007.

February update: those of you who watch my web-site may notice a new download available for the CAN-view V4. http://www.hybridinterfaces.ca/downloads.html There is no reason for Prius owners to download it as the new code just adds some functionality for the Ford Escape hybrid. It will switch automatically between vehicles. At present it only displays Ford traction battery volts/amps/kw/SOC/battery temp: more should be added soon.

Nothing related to the Prius has been removed. I know at least one CAN-view owner has both the Prius and the Escape hybrid. CalCars.org have picked the Escape as the next logical vehicle for a plug-in conversion.

You may have read that Ford licensed the HSD technology from Toyota, but you may be interested to hear that the Ford and the Toyota don't share a single CAN message. It appears to have been re-done from the ground up. Maybe that's just to keep the lawyers happy but it makes working with the two vehicles harder.

Does anyone know if the CAN-view for 2006 models will ever be available to use the existing MFD display without the need for an external LCD panel? I would sure buy one if available.

the short answer is no, I don't intend to make a CAN-view version that works with the existing MFD in 2006 models

For a longer answer, you can search past postings for reasons why its just uneconomic for me to pursue this in the very small quantities involved. This has been an interesting, if money losing, hobby but with no real market demand, its time for tough decisions and so I have chosen instead to focus on CAN-view's use as a controller for plug-in conversions.

Consequently, as of the end of May I will no longer be building CAN-views of any type, except for those seriously considering a plug-in conversion. I think I'll be able to contribute more this way. I will, however, continue to support all existing CAN-views.

You might investigate the made-in-Japan device Ken1784 has promoted which at only $250 is a bargain.

Peepole read this....Norm is ending production in about 2-3 weeks. If you ever wanted or thought you might want a CAN-View order NOW. I can't over-emphesis the quality of this product. It is a techno-geek dream if you own a Prius. Put that tax return to good use, beg your SO for some extra pocket change, put it away as a Christmas gift to yourself....use whatever excuse will put your mind to ease for the budget hit, but don't let this opportunity slip away and then regret it 2 years from now.

I'm sorry to see Norm be forced to give this project up but can understand why.

Norm, would you consider releasing the circuit and parts diagrams in case someone wanted to build their own and then use your software to program it?

Sorry, my tax return is already spent, and I already have a CAN-View. However, if I didn't I'd order one right now, and if I couldn't afford it now, I'd order one later with the promise to do a PHEV conversion. The latter, I intend to do eventually in any case.

    Dave M.

P.S. If he eventually does a V5 that works with the '04-05' models, I'd be willing to order one of those as well.

If its a time thing I'm sure people would be willing to buy a "kit" that they could put together. Say include the case, circuit board with the SMD components already soldered on, and a bag of parts. Then people could solder on everything, flash the device, and have a complete can-view. Or you could sell just the circuit board with the SMD components soldered on and have people buy what they need from digikey with a parts list that you provide. I say you should have the SMD components already soldered on because I know most of us don't have the ability or the equipment to solder the SMD components. I know I don't.

If its a money thing then I'm sure you can make some more money buy providing it as a "kit".

    Just some thoughts.

As I mentioned in one or two other threads (and after some of Evan's gentle arm-twisting :) ), I got the Can-view. It arrived yesterday, and within a couple of hours was installed and up and running. Woohoo!

I spent a lot of last night and today reading through Can-view threads. I know some of you have mentioned the data logging ability via the optional serial output (which I got), but I don't remember who or where. Have any of you used it? I hurriedly took a whack at it today using instructions and software provided here and here, but had some issues. I'll spare you the details until I've done more troubleshooting later this week, but in the meantime I just wanted to identify resources for possible assistance.

I haven't done anything on this yet, but intend to. Maybe I'll get a chance to look at it next week, after I've turned in final grades.

Here is everything I know about the data logging:

This is some of what I've collected using the CAN-View.

Ryan, thanks for responding. I saw your information yesterday, in fact, as part of my search for solutions. I love your charts! Now if I can only replicate that. :(

So, I am still having problems and posted details in this PC thread (posted there because that thread is specific to Can-view data logging). I also e-mailed both Dave Roper and Gary Morris. Gary was kind enough to respond and have me send him the raw data file and the resulting log file to look at. Nothing definitive yet.

Anyway, even if that's all you know about data logging, you obviously are much more technically savvy than I. I would be very appreciative if you take a look at my post there and see if anything jumps out at you.

Finally, Norm, if you're listening, any ideas from you too are appreciated.

Although they sounded like they knew my car inside out  keep up the great work you two!!!

I was expecting "Liters consumed" but I don't mind dividing the time over liter/Hr ;P best wishes you two.
