That got me to thinking....I could anyways pull into service bay and and show then my manual and challenge then to do the 3 step procedure to shine me why inyn such an idiot! Then if they
they can't do it, I'll at least get their attention and maybe a mechanic as well...my luck, it'll need a new head unit! I'll keep you posted in case someone else runs into this, thx

Let me ask this..in the procedure it states to "keep pressing the button"...I am holding both the start button and the kph/m button down...does keep pressing mean to push and let meeta bunch of times or just hold down. I believe I've tried both. Should not be this confusing! Thx

    1. Hold down only km/mph button

    Then

    2. Start car as normal (no need to hold start button down)

    3. Do not release km/mph button until you see the completion of the reset count down on the odometer display (after 5 seconds)

"Keep holding the kph/mph button" would be much more clear than "keep pressing."

You mean I disassemble to hold it in my hand? Do I leave the wires connected when I do that? ;)

I got it! Took it to Toyota and it took 2 different techs to get it. Turns out, the manual is wrong. Here is the correct way:
    1. Set to trip a and turn off
    2. Hold down kph/mph button
    3. Then, with foot off brake, press start button twice and wait till resets...thank you all for your help here!

The Owner's Manual says "turn the "POWER" switch to ON mode. Does that make sense to anyone besides the purest Prius geek: no. Does your description nail it: YES!

Attached is a pdf of the instruction as you worded it, for printing. Looks like this:

Thanks!! What a project that was. LOL! Glad you got it. I've never had any issues before, but I'll try that way next time I change the oil, which will be soon.

I've reset mine many many many times, and I've done it just by holding down the km/mph button and starting/powering the car. As long as the car gets power, accessory mode or going to READY mode, shouldn't matter.

There is no secret sauce, not sure why the OPs car is any different. I don't think a sticky is necessary as it seems to only apply to 1 car.

    Just keeping score, there's:

    1. "Accessory" (one push of power button, without foot on gas)
    2. "On" (two pushes of power button, without foot on gas)
    3. "Ready" (one push of power button, with foot on gas)

    Does @JC91006 have a 3rd Gen?
I know my 4th Gen is different. There is a menu option on the MID.

No, I just usually look at the Profile thinking most people put their newest vehicle there.

Well, I was going to try it the "new" way. But the way in the book just had too much muscle memory, I guess.

Check that it's on trip A and turn it off. Hold mph/kph button, and start car. Boom. Done.

So with a single push of the start button, with foot on the brake, it worked?

I totally don't have a dog in this race, Canadian Prius mercifully don't have this "feature", heehee.

I really did like Honda's "maintenance minder" though. That was a soup-to-nuts maintenance alert, in the dash. It was "smart", ie monitoring various conditions. Honda didn't really disclose what, but it was doing a lot more than just counting miles/kms.

It would count down in percent, and light an alert from 15 percent downward. It didn't just say maintenance due, it showed a letter/number code, which you looked up in the Owner's Manual, everything spelled out. It really cut down on dealership chiselling too.
