    Clintonian reference?
    'Done' instead of 'is' ?
I will not fault Europe or the US for not seeing around that corner - because the world was a lot different 90 years ago and Germany really DID throw the first punch in WW1. Remember - we nearly failed to stick the landing after WWII - and that's WITH the Marshal plan and the Japanese Occupation!
I've said as much, but when you sit in the big chair, the buck stops at YOUR desk.
YOU own it. ALL of it.
This is something that some leaders get, and others struggle with (Romneys' niece, for example...)
The thing that people forget about the UK is that they were the undisputed leaders of the "free" world, unless there was a French person in the room, in which case the Brits were still the leaders of the 'free' world. France was supposed to be big enough to take care of themselves, before they collapsed even more quickly than the Afghan army, did some 80 years later.
Just remember, the UK had recently been emasculated by WWI, as were the French.
The United States was like 16th in the world in terms of military strength according to contemporary thought (it was REALLY more like 7-8th) and we were devout isolationists.
There were, LITERALLY, pro Nazi rallies and demonstrations in the late 30's and early 40's that would warm the hearts of modern Palis.
    So....yeah.
The same mistake was made with Nazi Germany in 1938 with the Munich Agreement for the same reason people keep MAKING that same mistake (google: 'Peace in out time') which is the debunked theory that you can appease dictators if you just give them a little something for the effort.
THAT's why we've spent nearly as much on the Ukis in 3 years as we have on Israel in over 7 decades.
THAT's why the Persian Foreign Legion needs to be dealt with in like manner.

Don't forget to read up on the League of Nations, and the Washington Naval Treaty.....

Stopped can happen anytime, there is no Clinton involved. I can’t even grasp why you argue about “stopped.”
The problem with faulting decisions is anyone can be a quarterback on Monday morning. Taking an honest view, as far as I know, it was later found Chamberlain waited because Britain would have been unprepared. So he actually did the best thing at the time. Decisions are made in real time without knowing the future. It’s so easy to criticize after the fact.

    History and historians disagree.
But we've probably done enough squirrel chasing for a thread concerning Yota's ongoing customer care efforts.

You brought it up OT. It is not a settled topic to historians.
Dealers have low inventory to sell. It’s no different than there are 10 birthday cakes in the window and 100 kids are having birthdays. So they have to make $10 per cake rather than $1 per cake to keep the lights on the same. Maybe that’s gouging, maybe not.

    Said the wealthy retiree...... ;)

Price gouging on a new car lot is a victimless transaction.
The wealthy are shopping for a luxury item, and if uninformed they deserve to learn the hard way, and poor people would be better off in a casino.

You can petition your congress person to submit a bill for price controls if you prefer,
    Should result in interesting times

If you're going to petition your Congressman you better include a check that's twice as large as the association that keeps these auto dealers conditions' status quo.

Do the folks boasting how much money they made on cars they bought cheap in 2020 into early 2021, and sold for big gains, call themselves “gougers?” Does the person buying a rare painting in a thrift shop for the needy for $10, then reselling it for $10,000, call themself a “gouger?” No thought at all about the thrift shop for the needy lost out, none.

When cars aren’t selling and customers are lowballing, is that reverse gouging?

I think most dealers get what they want anyway, like on the trade. I would call customers lowballing attempted reverse gouging. They are called dealers for a reason.

After boycotting SE Toyota while generally pleased with my just down the street NC dealer, I used a quote from outside the distributor's area to get a local dealer to sell me a car at the same price without the need for the 250 mile trip to get out of the distributor's area. It helped that the dealers all knew that the Avalon was being discontinued.

Having bought online going back to 1999, I much prefer to buy that way.

It's only gouging if you bought it. :p

Many dealers use deceptive practices to inflate the prices. That is my biggest issue with them.
