hello, I have a 2008 Prius. I was driving and the Master Warning Light + the check Light + something else came on and a few moments later my car died. I just had it towed home. I am not sure what to do. Any advise? I just had the windshield replaced, air filters replaced, oil change completed a few days ago. Help???

Probably NOT the problem, but a quick, easy thing to check is the oil level. Pull the dipstick and see how much oil is in the engine.

This car is very sensitive to having the oil overfilled, and unfortunately, it is not Uncommon for the oil to be overfilled during an oil change.

If that is the problem, hopefully draining the excess will solve the problem and there is no long term damage.

Reading the codes, of course would help.

Sorry to sound stupid, but I have always had the oil changed at shops. Where is the dipstick for my son to check?

Watch this video, after she puts the supplies on top the engine, she pulls up the dipstick and checks the oil

Welcome! Sorry you are having a problem with your car. Maybe you can have it towed to a Toyota dealership or an independent hybrid-trained mechanic so they can figure out your problem and whether it had anything do to with the work you recently had completed. As the other poster said, they can use a computer to read the trouble codes from the car's computer and that will help them figure out the issue. Good luck! Let us know what they find.

Try this: Without placing your foot on the brake pedal, press the start button twice to see if there's power
(the start button should be a solid green at this time). If not, then you should consult your owner's manual
as the first step of troubleshooting the problem(s). When you say your car died that can mean a lot of things.

Does that mean you saw solid green on the start button or not?

You have 8-yr 100000 mile warranty so you might be just over 8-yrs? Hopefully just under.

Perhaps it is the batteries (12V and/or HV).

I bought the car used from a Toyota Dealer. I have only had the car now for just over 5 years.

This is all just going to turn into "did you."

The easy first checks are the oil and the gasoline. You apparently passed. Without a great deal more information, this will all be WAGS.

Bisco (and I am surprised:eek:), does bring up a sort of decent point. You should register your Prius on the official Toyota owners website -- google it == it will tell you at least some information about the car and will let you know if any recalls have or have not been performed, such as the inverter.

But, at least from my point of view, all the rest of this is just throwing chaff into the wind without some solid codes, or even better information about how the car "died/"

Your 8-yr/100000 mile hybrid warranty is based on when the first owner purchased the car...you may need to call Toyota to establish your car age in their records. Unfort you may be just over, but it's worth a chance. Also depends on miles which you have not given us yet.
