    Hello all,
I have a ‘08 that sat for a long time and could not start because the 12v bat was bad and 8 cells were also bad. I managed to replaced the 12v and the other 8 cells and tested all cells to displays ~7.8V.
-Car drove and charged well for a day. The secondary as I was driving I noticed a Red triangle , a check engine light, a Maint-Req, in the display.
    - I also noticed that the car will not speed and the average MPH will be 12-20 whether you press the accelerator to the fullest or not.
    - I noticed that a Fan locates on The rear right side sit will start running
    -
Using OBD tools I could read P0001,P0002,P0003,...
If I stop and restart the car it works every time. It will display the codes, will charge batteries for few minutes and will go back to everything I listed before.
If I disconnected the 12V bat for a minute or two, the code will not display at next start and that will last about 5 minute then everything will be back to the initial problematic state.
The gas tank is always almost full and the 12V is brand new.
    Any input please

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Which device are you using to read the OBD2 codes (DTCs) with ?

Washington is a fairly large state, are you near an urban area ?

I used a tool I borrow from a mechanic on my way and it’s a handheld in a size 5.5”x2.5” but just one of those basic tool.
I’m in Washington DC actually and the car is out of the country and used for vacation while I’m down there

The scan tool you are using is not reading the Prius correctly. It either can't or is not configured correctly.

Those codes are not valid Gen 2 Prius codes.

    Thank you Dolj,
I will find a better reader and revert back. Does the behavior signal anything to you?

From your description, it appears the HV battery is failing. (HV battery fan on high, low MPH, etc)

Did you happen to balance the HV battery pack with a grid charger?

Did you clean the HV battery fan?

    Thank you you SFO,
I simply tested with a multimeter the voltage and discovered that the 1-8 cell were reporting less voltage than others . There were below 3v.
Should I try to balance all of them and if so would this be with a Battery charger calibrates to 8V?

It could save some headache and effort if you were to retrieve the stored OBD2 codes (DTCs) with a hybrid compatible OBD2 reader (mini-vci cable, or ODB2 bluetooth adapter, etc), this would help guide you in which steps to perform first.

Most likely those modules have failed. Do you already have a hobby charger?

Many here like to use the Prolong gear for grid charging and balancing the HV battery pack as a whole.

    Hello dear,
I have a Bluetooth version of OBD2 and will make a trip there ASAP to collect the needed codes. Would there be a recommandés brand for the grid charging?
    Thank you

You can find a charger and discharger here : Shop Consumer - Hybrid Automotive

Some members on this forum have built homemade grid chargers using a HV LED power supply.

    Hello Prius gurus!
I was able to retrieve code from my 08 Prius and would appreciate any help
    Here are the codes:
    Hybrid fault P3000
High voltage batt fault: P3020 and 3021
    ABS system fault:C1241; C1259; C1310
These were retrieved using a Bluetooth OBDII App from Motordata OBD

    Thank you

I would focus on correcting the P3020 and 3021. Those report that Block 10 and Block 11 in the HV Battery are weak. Those are modules #19/20 and #21/22 from the non-ecu end of the battery. At least one module in each of those blocks is causing problems. After you fix that, reset all the codes and se if anything comes back.

    Hello All,
I made a trip home where my 08 prius is sitting. Upon replacing block #19-20 the code were gone. I only now see a code complaint about the Batt temp sensor which I record was reconnected correctly. The car has improved but still not operating as before. The video attached was taken from the Batt monitor and I believe This is indicating an issue also because the car will stop charging the batteries until a code reset is sent . Once that happens the engine is louder than usual.

You didn't want to replace module #21 and or #22 while inside the pack?

Were you able to balance or recondition after replacement?

I did balance all of them at that time and to me now it seems like I need to go back for some extra work. The #21. & 22 are from left to right starting bear the circuit breaker correct ?

The two (2) modules would be adjacent to the previously replaced module(s). Please read the following once again :

For DTC P0A9E : One of the HV battery temp sensors is acting up, and it could be a simple connection issue, or the known HV battery issue. All of the sensors should be reporting around the same temperature, what do yours report?

Here is the workup for DTC P0A9E : https://ww2-secure.justanswer.com/uploads/skyvisions/2008-06-21_094242_05_prius3.pdf

For DTC P0AFA : Check the voltage sensing wires for corrosion/breakage at the bus bars. Check the connector and plug at the HV battery ECU for corrosion or burnt pins.

For DTC P3019 : Just like the previous 'bad block' DTCs, one or both of the modules are reporting a low voltage.

For DTC P3000 there are a few INFs (aka subcodes or detailed codes) that can help narrow down the that particular DTC, see if the OBD2 code reader that you are using is capable of retrieving and reporting them. Not all OBD2 readers are hybrid compatible.

    Here is the workup for DTC P3000 with INF 123, 125, 603 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/3000123.pdf
