After driving a couple of hours in our 2010 Prius, we stopped for gas for 5 minutes or so. When we tried to start the car again, it wouldn't start; it made some noises behind the dash, and the dash light with a lock flashed red. After doing this several times, we waited 5 minutes or so and then it started normally. Any idea what caused this?

How many miles on her? You gotten the warning for your battery in your fob needing replacement?

Original? - 12 volt auxiliary battery? If so, battery probably needs replacing.

Thanks for your replies. We replaced the 12 volt auxiliary battery and then it started fine. We hadn't gotten any notices about low battery in the fobs, but we got one just after replacing the 12 volt aux battery, so maybe that contributed to what we saw. (The car has a little over 11,000 miles on it.)

Probably be a good idea to replace the little battery in the fob. Do both of them at the same time. If you only have one fob, you really should have two.

11K on the clock? WOW, not many miles.

    Best of luck to you.

Oops, I meant 111K. Thanks for the tip on replacing the fob battery; we're gonna do that today on both fobs.

Don't sweat it too much. Replace the FOB batteries sure, but sometimes the FOB signal is interfered with by things like a cell phone nearby, and what you describe happens. If it keeps happening then there is a dying battery (cell actually) or you need to move the cell phone farther from the "on" button. ;)

LOL, 11K vs 111K - little bit of difference, easy mistake to make (slipped digit) ;)

Don't be surprised when you get inside of the keyfobs and see how cheap looking they really are. I would be careful with the two little clips for the battery. The fobs are NOT cheap if you damage one, and you still have program on top of that.

I changed ours (battery) without a hitch, but did not think too highly of the fob innards. Used to have a Gen II Prius (2009). Those key fobs were well made IMO.

    Best of luck to you!
