The Fiero...

Some of y'all may know that I've been around hot rodding for more than two score years...

I have two friends that have made electric conversions with a little 914 and a CRX...

I've always thought about doing that to a Fiero...

Strangely, amm0bob's post of the Deora, awakened long dormant
memories of this little jewel.

Back in the early '70's I was completely enamored with it... well, at
least it's shape. Ultimately though, it's impracticality couldn't be
ignored; no driver's side door. You'd have to crawl across the car to
get in! Also the lack of fenders would lead to lots of paint deterioration
down low.

I will admit I was also enamored with the rebuilt/customized Dodge 100 p/u... I wasn't totally impressed with how to get in and out, but the moving steering wheel was sorta fascinating... I always thought it would be a real beotch trying to get in and out in the rain... but drive-in movies would be cool.

My cousin and my wife had MG Midgets...

The rounded rear wheel-wells tell the above are made after 1972...

An early one without windows or outside door handles...

Some of em are even raced...

Then they were sold due to bankruptcy... and some other fellas put a few together on old parts...

Then they didn't have any more parts and sold their stuff off to a firm tied to Ford in Mexico...

On August 14, 1962 the prototype R-3 (299 cid) driven by Andy Granatelli set several land speed records with the top speed of 168.15 mph (270.61 km/h) for the Flying Mile. This Avanti was later modified into the Due Cento for the 1963 Bonneville runs. In October 1963, Granatelli took several Studebakers to the Bonneville Salt Flats, including an R-3 Avanti (#9) in which he reached a record speed of 170.78 mph (274.84 km/h).[citation needed] By the time he was done, Granatelli had set or broken 34 U.S. land speed records in the Avanti, allowing Studebaker to proudly proclaim it the "World's Fastest Production Car". In addition to being fast, the Avanti led the domestic auto industry in the use of front caliper disc brakes (Dunlop discs produced under license by the Bendix Corporation).

Yeah, that's cute... Artists have a way with making us look at them... A Baron Margo creation I think... I really don't see it stealing anything from a modern car...

There's a bunch of pictures of that little LA ride... I would get a kick out of driving it too I guess... but hey, I've been in parades on purpose...

I Like the JET CARS more than Rocket Cars... although, the Blue Flame would be my favorite actual rocket car...
