I'm thinking of getting a catalytic converter shield/guard for a 2012 Prius V that will soon be street parked frequently in Chicago. I have heard that the catalytic converters are often sawed off and stolen. Any tips on a Chicago area mechanic to install a shield (and possibly supply one)? Any tips on a good guard to purchase? Thanks!
You should probably also get a tremor switch installed on the car (an add-on to your existing alarm system). Thieves need to lift the car in order to get under it to steal the CAT.
I've got the Miller Cat stainless steel (not aluminum) shield. Shields don't prevent theft if they don't mind the slightly longer time. What you're hoping to do is to prompt them to look for an easier target. (Also I park in a driveway in slightly quiet neighborhood (no through traffic) but thieves are always on the look out.)
