LOL is right. I was all into that if that was the case insted I still look at that Nissan Leaf car for another choice you know.

Nowadays I'm always aware of problem whjen I have to pull over and discipline the younguns. Do gooders drive by and honk adn call the law when I do discipline on them in the ditch. If a car had a buton to push and the armrest slipe back and give thema good pop in the chops then it is all good. :cheer2:

Does Toyota have aftermarket child discipline acesorys?

Any chance a mod can move this thread to the MODS section please?

Perhaps also change the thread title`?

    Thanks in advance.

Offtopic, but why is your center console cover black and your seats misty gray?

did you swap the cover or did it come that way?

    Thanks,
    Mike

As the youngest child of 3 who grew up in the back of subcompacts and compacts I salute your efforts.

PS I think the center console is a bag-o-shite too.

Thank you SO MUCH for this!!! I taped the pins back and it's a huge improvement.

Just a minor note: depending on what you store in the center console, you can easily remove the little tray hinged at the rear of the top of the console (the thing with the stubby screwdriver on it in thumbnail #12 of post #13). Just squeeze the back of it together to disengage the two little hinge pins that hold it in. I keep tall stuff in the center console and it was getting in the way.

Bravo OP! Very nice mod! I'll have to try the "easy version" of this mod asap. I like the idea of not having to make it a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puzzle_box"]two step process[/ame] to get into the storage compartment. My wife  thought the armrest was broken when we first acquired the Prius. She was trying to lift the armrest up before sliding it. I had my "double facepalm" moment:

I then had to do my Nick Burns skit "moove", keep my cool, and show her how it works. Now she's going to think it's broken again after I do this mod... :p

Taping the pins back worked only temporarily. In the summer heat the tape adhesive softened and the pins pushed back out again.

So I removed the tape, took a fine-toothed hacksaw, and gently sawed off just the little plastic pins. The blade was mounted in a hacksaw frame, but an unmounted blade would probably work equally well. Takes about 30 seconds each side.

Many thanks to both of you.

I have a need to put a small printer for the EFT payment system that we have in all cabs in Australia somewhere where I can get at it. The most common place is in the centre consol, but I felt that the slide back nonsense would be a problem in the Prius, and was not happy with the alternatives. Now I can put it in the centre consol and not affect my passengers when they pay by credit card.

I found an even easier way and also full proof (so far). Push in the pins and wedge one of those black plastic valve stem caps up into the hole. Can't see it and holds the pin all the way back. took about 20 seconds to do.

Actually, if you knew you were not going to change it; don't know why you couldn't just cut the pins off.

Got lazy to take the whole thing apart and used your technique to see if it would do the job. Guess what?! It did! This was a 1 minute job!! haha Thanks!

Used 2 tire pressure covers and wedged it in the armrest so that you can open it without sliding it back.

I wedged it in here on both sides. The pin is the gray piece.
