Hi Socrates, my 2010 has gone 110000kms and still same brake pads less than half worn. However yours is a taxi. Lots of stop-go, and, if i'm right(?), Athens has lots of hills where regen braking may not be sufficient. What are your fellow taxi drivers getting?

That's a lot of variation. If yours are indeed needing replacement they may just be at the low end of that sequence. Most likely it's some variation in environment or perhaps driver habits. I.e. where are most of your customers going to and coming from? Does it require frequent low speed braking? I can't remember from previous posts whether you have inspected the brake your self or had a second opinion? There may be a fault with the vehicle but I would think you would have much poorer fuel consumption.

After I got the brake recall upgrade I noticed more immediate wear on the front discs. I wonder if the guy who got 80k km (50k miles) services the car himself and didn't get the recall done?

    Just a thought.

(the other theory is that the bigger the driver the quicker you wear your brakes :D. Are you a big lad or just heavy on the brakes?)

I believe that our friend here has got the point: frequent low speed braking.
The traffic conditions in Athens are terrible. If you drive a car with manual transmission you can use 1st or 2nd gear, very rarely 3rd and then you have to brake. With the slow speed the "generation" brakes are off.

In those traffic conditions I would recommend putting in Neutral more often (because Drive does force you ahead until complete stop), like under 15km/h or for driving ahead the car for few metres...

Edit: In many cases, I put D to leap forward a bit, and if not going above 15km/h, I glide in N the rest of the "momentum trip".

Update: Read yesterday...a 3Gen Prius owner in Portugal had the same problem, front pads very worn at 26 k km (16k miles)!
He complained at dealer, I'll follow up.

No way. I replaced mine at about 30K miles and even then they weren't fully worn out - just below the 1mm limit. I am a cabbie and very brake happy in slow traffic. Maybe this driver at 16k has a sticking brake?

I understand the European discs and pads are softer than the American versions though.

I still have 8mm left on my fronts at 25k, and I use my brakes a lot. Looks like at this rate, I should be able to make it near 100k. Not that its a big deal to replace pads and rotors, but it is still a benefit.

My 2010 Prius (3rd gen) has 59000 miles of moderate driving and the dealership just measured my pads at 9mm front and 8mm rear when the car was in for a recall to update the computer. That from an original 10mm original seems to indicate they will last till near 200thou! Thanks for the chats above.

Mine had a reading at 34000KM,~21000mi. they are at 6 and 7 mm, which represent a 55% and 40% use.
The car runs 95% highway. somehow im worried

I just had my Prius serviced at 50,000 miles and the brake pads are all at 7mm. So if yours are worn at 19,000, either you drive like crap or your dealer's lying his tush off.

My dealer swore up and down that they could only replace the transmission fluid with s $340 transmission flush. When I told him a flush was not necessary or even possible on a Prius, he just kept insisting.

Or it depends on your usage.

I went front a set of front pads at 30k hard miles. Since I quite the taxi job I have done 21k and the front pads are at 7mm.

But if they're getting 19k miles on pads, they must drive worse than me - unlikely, or there is a sticking brake caliper.

I was wondering that too. Have they been sourced from Europe, perhaps France? Especially considering the Quebec connection?

The European versions are softer but do give much more 'bite'.

that might make sense. if 90% of your driving is highway, you shouldn't be using any brakes at all, unless you're a tailgater.

I definitely do not think i am driving recklessly in the prius., at all. on high way it averages 5.5, or 43mpg, at 77mph, in the city I often see 4.5, or 52mpg

What is the estimated break pads' usage on a 2014 toyota matrix? If the dealer is lying, then he probably would give me a reading similar to a conventional car, like the matrix? If a matrix uses ~50% of its breaking pads after 21000mi, then I will know he is lying. (?)

The dealer did give me a check list of the thing done, and it looks rather official, I cropped the signature.

should I try to get a reading from a different garage
