    Hi all
I have a 2007 Prius and recently had to change the fob battery, I used the correct battery and installed it correctly and the car now starts per usual with the fob but the fob no longer will lock/unlock doors.....any thoughts, thank you.

I have seen my share of bad new batteries, as a result I pay a little more for Panasonic branded cells.
Unfortunately you cant always trust a voltage measurement with these cells.
Do you have a known good battery that you can double check the remote with?

Double check the battery is installed the right way in the fob. Do you have the old battery to try as a comparison?

I double checked the polarity on the battery and plus side is facing up. I read somewhere that when you change batteries you need to press the unlock and panic buttons simultaneously for 5-seconds???? Is this true?

I've never had to do that for my Gen2 fobs.

    SOLUTION FOUND!
First off thank you all that responded with suggested fixes. After speaking with the dealer he said that I should check to see that both buttons are depressing and then "popping" back up after finger pressure is removed; sure enough the unlock button was stuck in the depressed position, not sure I'd recommend this but I took a small flat head screwdriver and pried up the rubber seal on the top side of the fob and this returned the "springlike" action of the unlock button and now the functionality of the fob works to lock and unlock the doors. The option was to pay $400 to the dealer to buy a new fob and have them program it or buy one on eBay. We shall see how long this lasts!

If your car has SKS, it is in your best interest to buy a NEW (100% virgin) SKS FOB.

Buying a used SKS FOB: looses all SKS functions (no more pressing the black button on the door handle/trunk, no more just pressing Power to start the car). Also, no more remote lock/unlock/panic via the buttons on the FOB. Awesome!
$110 for a new SKS Fob on Amazon; LINK.
$60 for an used SKS Fob on crapBay (eBay).

With a new SKS Fob, you can program the FOB yourself, as long as you have one working SKS Fob for the car.

You nailed it bisco! I just wasn't sure if both buttons had the same "push down/pop up" feeling, the reason I mention this is that BOTH fobs had this exact problem with the unlock button at the SAME TIME!

Why did both fob's fail the same way at the same time?

The buttons are rated for a certain number of cycles; it is obviously a lot of cycles. 1 cycle = depress, release, button pops back up. Just like a vehicle shock/strut, they buttons loose their "spring," and the ability to return to the proper upright (disengaged) position.

Were both fobs being used equally more or less? Essentially seeing the same amount of wear. Maybe items in pocket/purse were increasing wear on the buttons by accidently depressing the buttons slightly (not enough to activate unlock/lock/panic), but enough to accelerate wear.

The rubber button cover disintegrates over time. Its possible some very small pieces maybe got trapped on the circuit board side, hindering the button from returning to the disengaged position?
