Forgot to plug in the PIP last night. It's programmed to finish charging at 6:30 am.

Promptly at 6:31 am, Entune sent me an email about the charging problem. Well, that was too late to plug it in and get a full charge before leaving.

Entune should do two things better:
    • Email about the charge failure when it sees it won't make the deadline.
    • If logged in on the smartphone app, put up a notification of the problem
What's the point of being connected to the car if it doesn't give info while it's still useful?

i hate when i forget to plug in, but i don't have entune, so no one to blame but myself. they need a software change that figures when the charge should start. i guess it's already in there, but that's when it should notify you. of course, if you're not plugged in, nothing gets initiated. i'm surprised it notified you at all.

I myself don't use the timer, my PIP's outside in the cold and charging it up doesn't warm the battery up enough to make a difference.

If you think about it.....using a Kill A Watt meter will give you approx 3KW since the battery charges to 85% which is approx 3KW how much is left over for heating the battery?

It's a lot of BTU's to heat the battery to a point where the battery will operate without ICE kicking in. A lot more BTU"S than what the timer charged battery will give you:(

A 2.1 oz. Snickers bar contains 280 Calories. In normal energy terms, this is 280,000 cal or 280 kcal. The amount of energy in a Snickers bar is capable of raising 280 kg of water 1 oC. This amount of energy is capable of raising the body temperature of a 70 Kg (154 lb) person by 4 oC.

The watt is a relatively small amount of power. You produce about 1 W of power raising a glass of water to your mouth over a one second time period. Since the watt is such a small unit, power is often measured in kilowatts (KW).

The kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a commercial unit of electrical energy. It is the amount of energy that results from the steady production or consumption of one kilowatt of power over one hour. It is equivalent to 3.6 megajoules of energy or 3412 BTU. Although this is not a standard measurement unit for any scientific system, it is the unit by which electrical consumption in homes and businesses is measured.

I still can't find how many BTU's it take to raise the battery temperature from, let's say 14 degrees Fahrenheit to 5o or 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The battery also weighs a lot too.:coffee:

Most of the time, the response is within a few seconds. Every now and then, the server gets burdened in some way and a notify doesn't make it through the pipes for awhile. Welcome to the world of IT.

The timer's primary purpose is for battery longevity. That's achieved by allowing for a cold soak... letting it rest prior to recharging.

There's the side benefit of delaying until electricity rates are lower too.

But I can say if all the energy that went into charging the battery was heat (BTU"s) then 3 KW= 10,236 BTU's per hour. If the battery was charging at 3KW per hour (it's not) So very little BTU's left over to heat the battery.

the ambient temp in my garage is 45 degrees. i'm calculating that a full charge from empty raises the battery temp to 64 degrees. not bad, but not enough to bring about summer ev range. then, when you start driving and it's 30 degrees outside, passing thru the cabin and into the battery fan suction, it starts cooling even more. of course, it's heating fro discharging and charging, so, my head hurts again.
