Check engine light / misfiring cylinders 2002 Prius

    Hello fellow Prius owners. I'm happy to join your ranks.

    I've recently encountered a misfiring cylinder error code on my 2002 Prius. The problem is similar to the issues described by this thread:

    Interestingly the car runs fine for the most part.

    However, if I'm driving for more than 10-15 minutes the brake light suddenly turns on and the gas motor kicks in at a higher RPM (and seems to stay in 1st gear). Stopping the car and restarting it instantly fixes the problem. The brake light goes away and the engine starts shifting normally.

    Has anyone encountered something similar?
