The original bill was modified, by the republicans in the legislature, before it could achieve enough bipartisan support. Thus Pete's admission it was less than what was originally intended. (Oh, and Pete was an a$$, even when Mayor. The best thing he did in D.C. was to miss a lot of votes. Peace is also a jerk, but at least he has good intentions. But he's hardly Mensa material.)

The bill the energy companies were lobbying for was NOT the bill that was eventually passed.

Stop drinking the red Koolaid.

Once again, more unsubstantiated, not-the-whole truth, highly partisan crap.

Of course the bill was modified by the Republicans. The bill was also modified by the Democrats. The bill was probably also modified by third part members. All sides add amendments . . . which are voted on in committee by both houses.

So are you insinuating the Republicans rammed amendments into a bill authored by Steve Peace and through a Joint Senate-Assembly committee chaired by the same Steve Peace? . . and then bullied the Democrat controlled Assembly to pass said bill . . . unanimously? HARDLY! <_<

The bill passed with unanimous votes from both parties in both houses.

And what the hell do you mean by saying, "before it could achieve enough bipartisan support." Since when is any bill EVER passed out of committee without discussions and amendments?

"During a hurried two-week conference in August -- dubbed the "Steve Peace death march" for his propensity to keep negotiators at the table late into the night -- the fine points of the energy law were hashed out. Legislators entrusted their judgment to Peace and the few colleagues who worked on the bill. There was an abiding sense by a number of participants that few members of either house knew what was in the bill or even understood it. It was passed by both houses of the Legislature unanimously and signed into law the following month."

Again, unsubstantiated partisan regurgitation.

So, did San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric " . . . spent $4.3 million on lobbyists and $1 million on political campaigns in their efforts to encourage deregulation" . . . actually spend that money lobbying for the wrong bill????

The electric utilities knew exactly what they were lobbying for. They knew exactly what was going on.

How's this for a little tidbit of information regarding exactly how much the electric utilities were involved in crafting the reform legislation . . .

California Deregulation Chairman Hires Edison Lobbyist as Chief of Staff
Senator Steve Peace (D-San Diego) the chairman of the California state Senate's Energy and Public Utilities Committee in charge of electric restructuring, has hired as his chief of staff the former head of Southern California Edison's legislative and public affairs office.

Peace is chairman of a joint Senate-Assembly committee currently meeting to draft laws for deregulation and restructuring of the electric industry in California. The panel will also consider the future shape of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which voted last month to restructure itself.

David Takashima, the top lobbyist for the state's second-largest public utility, went to work for Peace on July 1. Takashima was the senator's chief of staff and lived with Peace for a number of years when Peace served in the Assembly before running for Senate. Takashima said it was time for him "to return to public service." The new boss of the senator's office said that his three years with Edison provide a strong background on the issues facing the industry, but claimed that his position did not involve decision-making.

WOW! Isn't that the same kind of thing you liberals have been hounding Bush-Cheney about regarding national energy policy?
WHY, YES IT IS!!!
So why aren't you people up in arms regarding Peace hiring Takashima?
Oh, that's right. Peace isn't a Republican.

Red Koolaid? Did you not notice my sources? Wikipedia, sfGate.com (San Francisco Chronicle), PBS . . . not one of which is known for serving up red koolaid.

Godiva . . . girl. Time for you to step up to the microphone (As so boldly demonstrated by Pinto Girl) and <strike>say</strike> - Noooo, in your case, YELL at the top of your lungs, "I DON'T KNOW!!!!!"

Really, You don't.
And while you are at it, you might consider getting deprogramming treatments for that severe case of bias you have contracted.
It has now affected your ability to distinguish colors.

Deregulation is not one person's 'fault' or success. However, Enron will be remembered as the prime vulture, and that is the shrub's step-child.

Heck, the shrub invited Enron to write his energy policy for him !!

But you do.

Chug a lug.

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

Apparently it's only the truth if it's written by Rush Limbaugh and appears on FOX news.

"Jason Leopold is a former Los Angeles bureau chief for Dow Jones Newswire. He has written over 2,000 stories on the California energy crisis and received the Dow Jones Journalist of the Year Award in 2001 for his coverage on the issue as well as a Project Censored award in 2004. Leopold also reported extensively on Enron's downfall and was the first journalist to land an interview with former Enron president Jeffrey Skilling following Enron's bankruptcy filing in December 2001. Leopold has appeared on CNBC and National Public Radio as an expert on energy policy and has also been the keynote speaker at more than two dozen energy industry conferences around the country."

Obviously the guy isn't credible.

And oh lookee what SFGATE has:

Step right up and get your grow here.

Same corruption, different focus.

Actually, if that site is read with discrimination, there are, once in a while, some extremely good articles relating to energy research on that site. I'll understand if you don't take my word for it, though.

But, that's not fair. You can't quote Sufferin's source as a reference for your argument.

So please point out to me where either IsrAmeriPrius' or your link prove (or even mention) that it was. . .
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Jul 23 2007, 01:44 PM) </div>
And while you are at it, please point out where I have quoted Rush Limbaugh or Fox News regarding your wildly biased and inaccurate statement about Governor Pete Wilson.

I DARE YOU. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!!! :p
YOU CAN'T DO IT . . . CAN YOU. :p
IN FACT, TRY TO POINT OUT ANYTHING I HAVE SAID ON THIS SUBJECT THAT IS INACCURATE.

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt . . . but you are the one drowning in it.

Sure, you can try to change the subject by chanting "Bush/Cheney - bad" . . . but there your statement sits . . A FREAKIN' BIASED LIE!
It's either that, or just an ignorant statement on your part . . . so, which is it?

Either way, the microphone and spotlight are waiting for you.

Step on up . . .
It's only three words you need to say. . .
I . . . DON'T . . . KNOW.

You can pretty much get away with anything in government, as long as it doesn't involve sex.
