We don't get much in depth coverage but the few snippets have me wondering ... what happened to dump so much rain?

Is this an area subject to monsoon rains too?

Imagine China has shape of a chicken (common imagery around here). Cut through it centrally with a diagonal line. Like a forward slash. South and west of that is Asian monsoon.

I'm guessing you refer to flood & landslide in Sichuan. Also raining a lot recently in Yunnan. But not right here, right now.

China Met. Adm. has maps on website. Language barrier is minor - everybody knows what centimeters are.

Thanks, it looks like two, stalled high pressure systems are pumping are pumping cold air from the west and moist air from the South China Sea into a stable, rain front. Not good.
