When we start our Prius V everything seems fine until the gasoline engine starts up and then these chunking type of sounds begin. There is one when it first starts and then a few more after with some other sounds.

This is new and we shut it off immediately.
The check engine light is on, but not blinking.
We are not driving it anywhere or running the motor.
The oil level is fine and all the fluid levels are too.

I thought about taking it to our Autozone and having them run the codes, will that work on a hybrid?

Very grateful for any advice or input from anyone who has gone through this issue!

How many miles? Did this just start or has it happened in the past as well? Any white smoke out the tailpipe? The worse case that pops into mind is a head gasket issue that causes the engine to run badly. The transaxle cvt has a mechanical clutch-like assembly that is permanently engaged but will slip if necessary should the engine and transaxle fail to synchronize properly.

oh boy, how many miles on her?

you can try auto zone, sometimes the generic codes are enough. if not, you have to go to toyota for details, or get tech stream.

have you ever cleaned the egr circuit?

I ran the codes and it comes up as the Mass Air Flow Sensor and the oxygen sensor for bank 1.
