Any thoughts, insights or opinions on the ClipperCreek HCS-40, 32 Amp Level 2 EVSE, 240V versus the Siemens VersiCharge, 30 Amp Level 2 EVSE, 240V? (*Hardwired, outdoor install.) The price for the Siemens on Amazon is currently $136 less than the CC. Bottom line...is the CC worth the extra $? Thanks.

Both are decent & I'd go with the savings.

I went with a JukeBox Pro 40 and love it. Charges my Prius in less than 2 hours from empty.

I think both of the questioned EVSE units are overkill for the Prime’s 3.3KW onboard charger, unless you have / plan to have a car that would make use of the full power of these units. Keep in mind that both of these units (I think) would require at least a 40 amp circuit which likely would be more expensive to install than a 30 amp circuit.

Having said this, either EVSE should be great for current EVs that can use either 6.6 or 7.2KW

IMO anyone who is going through the effort to install a level 2 charger should get a 32 amp charger for future proofing. Installing a 40 amp circuit isn't going to cost significantly more than a 30 amp circuit.

Upon doing further research about the Siemens, it turns out that its cord is only 14', not long enough for my needs. So that pretty much settles the issue for me. Thanks again to all who responded. (Any other recommendations for chargers would still be greatly appreciated. Leaning towards 40 amps for future considerations.)

I'm a fan of the Chargepoint Home. They have 2 different cable lengths available and the cord can be swapped out with relative ease.

ahha! So the Clipper Creek & Siemens EVSE's were not really Apples to Apples after all. Good catch! future proofing & longer cable is always a better way to go. We recently had to remove our aerovironment cable because it was too short for charging 2 cars in the same driveway w/out shuffling them around every few days.

I got the ChargePoint Home charger with the longer, 25 ft cord. It may not be important to you, but the integrated usage reports with public ChargePoint stations was appealing to me. The home stations are treated like any other ChargePoint station, except only you can see your home station on the smartphone application or the ChargePoint Web site. The home station is set up (WiFi configuration and such) using Bluetooth to the Chargepoint smartphone application.

Thanks again, DM84 and hill. And thanks for your recommendation as well, CharlesH. Just had an electrician stop by to give me an estimate for the wiring (outdoor, including running a wire underground for about 25' - 30'...I'm digging the trench myself). In the $400 - $500 range. Much more reasonable than the $1500 - $1700 range I've gotten from a couple other electricians!
